Steps down this walkway lead 80 feet below the surface
and reveal a world frozen in time that dates back to the last Ice Age.
To put things in perspective, the material we see preserved here in the tunnel
has been here 25,000 years longer than the pyramids,
which were constructed over 4,000 years ago.
This Corps of Engineers facility is an active underground laboratory.
CRREL Permafrost Tunnel is a window into a whole past climate environment of Alaska
and a window of what it looks like underground in three dimensions.
