Welcome back! I hope you had a good conversation. Often when we pray, we ask God to help us
with something, or we ask Him to answer some request. These are good prayers and we should
never be afraid to speak to God in this way. But there is another kind of conversation
with God that we sometimes forget about – saying “thanks.” Let’s thank God for the conversation
and reflection we just shared together: We give you thanks, Almighty God, for all Your
benefits, who live and reign, world without end. Amen. This prayer is actually an old
prayer that many people used to and still do say after meals just like we pray before
meals. Maybe this is a custom we could think about introducing into our own homes.
Now might be a good time to take that spirit of thanksgiving and put it into action. You
know that Christmas is coming soon – that time when we celebrate the incarnation of
God. Do you know what the incarnation is? I know, that is a difficult word – it comes
from Latin and means, the “taking on flesh” of God – God becoming human. Christmas celebrates
this wonderful moment when God became man and came to live with us. Let’s listen to
the words of the Gospel of St. Luke. The passage we are going to read next can be found below.
One member of your family can read the whole passage or maybe you can split it up and have
someone different read each paragraph.
