In less than half a century NYU
has been able to position itself as one of the leading institutions
in the world.
An institution that many people thought would not survive --
brink of bankruptcy, selling of assets --
and to then reassemble, find a mission,
be able to convince a lot of people on the sidelines
to sign up and join the march.
NYU is an entrepreneurial institution with great upside;
our ability to sustain
momentum. Momentum is a funny thing. It can be with you
but it can be fleeting,
and you have to constantly, constantly be
introducing new big ideas. I don't know
how many institutions have the capacity
and the willingness to dream big dreams,
and then to execute. What distinguishes
NYU is that it can execute on its dreams.
