[S1E20 - 'Monkey Business' - Afternoon Coffee - Feb. 10, 2013]
Hello, and welcome to 'Monkey Business.' This is 'Monkey Business' for February 10, 2013.
And, in today's Afternoon Coffee newser, we have...
A quick look at some upcoming earnings reports.
Beverage manufacturers Coca-Cola Company (KO) and PepsiCo (PEP) report on fourth-quarter 2012 earnings
this week - Coca-Cola on February 12 [2013], and PepsiCo on Valentine's Day, February 14 [2013].
Links to the upcoming earnings webcast for Coca-Cola (KO) and the conference call for PepsiCo (PEP) may be found in the infobox.
Also on Valentine's Day [Feb. 14, 2013], perhaps hoping for some sweet results, broadcaster CBS Corporation (CBS),
which recently aired annual sports event, the Super Bowl, clip here. [Clip shown onscreen - MB S1E18 - Super Bowl XLVII (Super Bowl 47) special]
And, on the grapevine, but not confirmed, several media outlets are reporting that there's a possible merger
being hashed out between two U.S. commercial airlines.
The boards of American Airlines' parent company AMR Corporation (AAMRQ) and US Airways Group, Inc. (LCC)
are reportedly in talks this weekend to discuss a possible merger between the two companies, which would create
the world’s biggest carrier, as gauged by passenger traffic.
Spokespersons for both firms, however, have declined to comment, confirm or deny the reports.
So, will Wall Street see that airline merger announced this week?
Right now, that’s up in the air.
And, over to Marcel, for Nearly News.
Take it away- wait, where is he?
[Plane] (Marcel) I'm up here.
[Studio] (Jack) [Gasps in surprise, but instantly recovers.] What are you doing in a plane?
(Marcel) I was supposed to be flying to Montréal [Fr. Montréal (Québec, Canada); Eng. Montreal (Quebec, Canada] for an early weekend getaway,
but then some wind happened.
So. Here I am.
Huh. I don't know where I am, but it's very pretty.
I suppose I'm at least a mile up, so, today, I'll share a Mile-High Report.
The U.S. Coast Guard - or someone - is trying to find me.
They said to give my coordinates, but all I could really say with any accuracy is to look up.
I'm somewhere over...somewhere...
They say they can't find me on the radar.
Can't find me? I'm right here.
In the meantime, for the Mile-High Report, evidently there are some silly people out there sending 'you're not invited' invitations.
For more on that, just check the silly story in the infobox.
I got one.
[In disbelief.] I'm not invited? I would be vexed, but right now, you know, I have other problems, eh?
Find a wedding reception?
I can't even find a place to land.
Thank you for not inviting me, now I have so much more free time not to die.
[Marcel suddenly spots a batch of planes in the distance, flying in formation.] Go around. Go around.
No worries, though, eh?
I'll survive, you know?
I have some champagne in the picnic hamper.
Ah, bon, back to Jack in the studio.
I see you, I hope.
À tout à l'heure! (See you soon!)
(Jack) And that's today's 'Monkey Business.' Take care, folks. It's a jungle out there. (TM)
[Studio – After show close.] (Jack) Oh my gosh. Should we send out a search party?
(Marcel) Let's see...
Hmmmm. I hope that's an island.
Where on earth am I?
Ah, wait, is that Belgium?
They have palm trees in Belgium? How exciting.
Eh, oh - save me a beach umbrella, you know?
(Marcel) [Humming to himself.] Hmm-hmm-hmm. Me and my aer-o-plane (airplane). Hmm-hmm-hmm.
(Marcel) Time for some champagne, I think.
(Marcel) [Looks back. Gasps.] I must’ve misplaced it.
Ah, no champagne. Oh...no champagne. Hello, out there. Hello. It's an emergency. No champagne.
I repeat, no champagne. This is urgent. No champagne.
Come in, please.
With some champagne.
[Leading rescue effort back at the MB studio.] (Jack) Hang in there, buddy. Out there. Up there. You know what I mean.
[Plane] (Marcel) Hello, hello out there.
This is, eh, me…flying, eh…
I don’t know where I am.
Maybe Belgium.
Somewhere with palm trees.
[Studio] (Jack) [To crew offscreen.] Don’t be ridiculous, we can’t Google-Map him. We have no idea where he is.
[To crew offscreen.] He’s doing loop-the-loops? [See: Aerobatic maneuvers - inside loop, outside loop]
He interrupted an air show?
He’s got U.S. Navy pilots after him, now?
[In calm but urgent tone.] Where.
Where. Where, Key West?
Where is that, Florida? [Key West, Florida Straits, U.S.]
Okay! Some news at last.
We’ll get you, Marcel. Just keep flyin'.
[Plane] (Marcel) Urgent. I repeat, this is urgent. We need some champagne. C-H-A-M-P-something, I don’t remember how to spell it, but I want some.
[Champagne is not immediately forthcoming, but Marcel can cope.] Ah, well. C’est la vie. (That’s life.)
[Humming to himself.] Hmm-hmm-hmm, just flying my airplane...
[Static is heard.] What’s that, a radio?
[Garbled message is heard, ending with, ‘…the U.S. Navy.’] Oh, the U.S. Navy, eh?
[Marcel has hopes for the airborne delivery of crucial champagne supplies.] Do they have a big slingshot?
[Marcel notices two planes in the distance.] Oh, that must be the U.S. Navy pilots arriving.
[Gesturing to aircraft in the distance. The other planes not shown onscreen.] Go around, go around.
[To viewer, referencing a prior MB episode.] Chaos in the skies! [See: 'Monkey Business' S1E16 - flying car segment]
