Do you-- here's a softball.
Ready?
Foo.
Do you ever-- nice.
Do you ever suggest in the video that if you stay watching,
there's going to be special trip at the end?
I always tease a little bit.
The first 15 seconds, I say, here's what the video's about.
I try to tease the value of this video.
And that keeps people watching longer
that if I just started with a branded intro for 30 seconds
and then moved into, hi, I'm so and so.
And then I'm like, that's about a minute, minute
and half in before you even get to the original--
the actual content.
That's--
I know what Ronnie's getting at.
Is there at all a tactic or strategy
for shortening or lengthening or encouraging people
to stay longer to affect time watched?
And the official YouTube answer is, don't do that.
I'm not officially from-- trust me,
they've talked about that multiple times.
That being said, me and Tim talked about this over and over
again.
And I really can't think of any tactics
that would usurp that, so to speak.
I'm sure that there's ways to improve watch time slightly
through doing that.
But I don't know that it's going to be worth it in the end.
There's so many variables.
There's view through times-- so what
videos are they watching down the path?
There's embedded view time-- where--
how much are they watching on external websites?
Yeah, the other thing I think about as far as watch time is
concerned is that it's not only watch time on your video,
but it's also how your video contributes to a viewer's
overall watch session on YouTube.
Yep.
So does your video-- watch time isn't just how many minutes
did they put into watching your video,
but it also considers if they went
and their viewing session continued for another 30
minutes through other videos, whether on your channel
or someone else's channel from related videos or something.
Your video sparks something, and someone,
they keep watching more videos.
YouTube takes that into consideration too.
And so then they'll bump your video up a little bit and say,
this is a more valuable video to us too.
Conversely, whether if it's another video where it doesn't
contribute to the overall viewing session.
So viewing time-- watch time isn't just your video.
It's also [INAUDIBLE] the other stuff.
