Hi! My name is Brandon Sarkis on behalf of Expert Village. Today I am going to show you
how to make black eyed peas. The equipment that we need for today's video; first things
first, pot with a lid. This is a five and a half quart pot with a nice lid. Five and
a half quarts is probably pretty big for this. You could probably go with a four quart pot
or five quart. Anything any bigger than five and half is going to be ridiculous so there
is your five and a half quart. You want to make sure that it is something that can stand
up to a fair amount of heat on the stove. You will have this simmering for about three
or four hours or so. Also, got to have a knife for cutting stuff up so there's your knife.
We are going to need a cutting board as well as you see right here. I am trying something
different with my cutting boards, I am going with trying one of these new synthetic. It
is a combination of like a poly resin and essentially it is almost paper. It is really
really heavily powdered down wood. Interesting cutting surface. Usually I am a big fan of
wood or bamboo but I am going to try one of these in a little to see what I think. Also,
I've got everyones favorite, the red high heat silicone spatula so I am going to stir
things up. I've also got a colander which you will need for this opening step. This
is a big colander. A small colander works just as well. It just happens this is in the
one that I've got. Of course, your towels. So towels in the case. It depends on how dirty
you plan on getting so let's go on and start with our first step which will be inspecting
the peas; it's a lot of fun.
