Hi, this is Cloud from TL.net.
Welcome to another of my FPVods.
This game is a ZvP on Destination.
And I will show you a rather new style of play.
And not one you will find frecuently on ICCup.
I will open with a 12 Hatch on this map...
And for that I will show you a little trick.
The 12 Hatch is not necessary, but...
Turning the early scouting option the Toss has...
Against him, you can start off with a 12 Hatch...
Against a Forge before Nexus...
And that works to our advantage.
Start by sending a Drone towards your ramp...
A few seconds after you start your Ovie.
It should arrive a bit sooner than the Probe.
And then hold position with it and the Ovie.
But you have to make sure it's down the ramp enough...
So the Probe can't have vision of the minerals...
No matter how far he moves up.
Your Drone should never receive the first hit...
In a battle uphill, so he will never lose...
Against the scouting Probe.
So in my case it was unnecessary...
To send the second one.
I will talk a little about this particular build.
It's not one I really have set on stone since...
I've mostly developed it through experience.
So you can create your own timings.
Remember to always understand the reason...
Behind a build rather than memorizing supply counts.
If you ever studied chess openings...
You would know of what I'm talking about.
Anyway...
This style involves no upgraded Hydras...
Instead it depends on upgraded Mutas...
A well timed ground Carapace...
And a good number of Lings to control the midgame.
Ling aggression works fine vs Protosses that..
Might want to expand to their 3rd's.
With few units.
Mostly because Lings work better than Hydras in...
Small fights.
This build will resemble 3 Hatch Spire into...
5 Hatch Hydra a lot, until you have placed...
Your fifth Hatchery.
Standard 12 Hatch, 11 Pool, 13 Hatch, 12 Gas.
Muta Carapace is upgraded as soon...
As the Spire is finished.
But we'll start making Mutas once it's almost finished.
Upgraded Mutas and Scourges...
Can take on a good number of Sairs and Cannons.
Larger than you might expect.
For basics of the early stages of the build...
Refer to my 3 Hatch Spire into 5 Hatch Hydra...
FPVOD.
The first Evolution Chamber, Ovie Speed...
And the 2nd Extractor are all built as soon...
As the 5th Hatch is finished.
Ovie speed is particularly important...
If the fourth base is on another front.
In this particular game, I will sacrifice...
A fourth gas for having only two fronts.
(My nat and my 3rd).
And thus easier defense.
A good decision in my opinion.
Since this is not a big map.
I built four Lings to make sure...
I killed the scout.
This is not paramount but it's always nice...
To keep your opponent in the dark.
So I also walled my ramp soon after.
Rembember not to let him have vision of the minerals.
We will use more Sunkens than in a Hydra build.
This is not because we're going to be passive...
Not for very long anyway.
But it is a requirement of a Muta-based style.
My 4th Hatch was earlier than my Spire...
Because I screwed up the timing of my Exctractor a little.
Lings are very useful in killing cannons and...
Even units such as Archons and Reavers...
When there are not many support units.
This being a heavy upgrade-based build...
Helps those Zerglings as well.
I don't really know of a good counter-strategy...
From Protoss.
Perhaps a Sair based build with DTs or Reavers...
Can work if the Protoss upgrades those Sairs...
And keeps them safe.
Perhaps a huge two-base attack can work well.
But this is a VOD for Zergs so...
About a dozen Lings were gotten relatively early.
This map needs a second Pylon and cannon to...
Protect the Assimilator, so early aggression can work.
Also, his Stargate is at an odd place.
Microing Scourges is a skill that few people have.
Scourges, unupgraded Hydras and Drones are about...
The most stupid units in Broodwar.
Don't let any Protoss whiner tell you different.
We will have enough defense, so we can afford...
Saturating our bases with Drones as much as we want.
Separating the same group of Scourges.
In different hotkeys can help in cloning.
A few pairs.
Fighting units take priority over Scourges...
When it comes to deciding who to attack by the A.I.
At least if the other units arrive first.
But still don't send your Scourges where they
Might catch a storm or Corsair splash.
As they are as fragile as paper planes.
My Scourges spotted him making constant Sairs.
I'll make Spores on my fronts to be safe vs DT's.
You can place your Scourges.
In a flanking position with your Spores.
To try and surprise the Corsairs.
Remember about magic boxes.
If the units you have selected are too apart from each other...
They will stack on the point you moved them to.
You might not want that to happen with scourges so...
Select smaller groups and reset the move command.
Until they are all together.
My good building placement and his delayed timing of units...
Because of the multiple Corsairs he built...
Make me feel safe vs an early Zeal/Archon attack.
As soon as he was trying to get hold of the middle...
It would have been a good time to send a scouting Ling.
For expansions, I failed to do so...
Kind of defeating some of the advantage of Lings.
It could have costed me the game, but anyway...
Let's focus on other stuff.
You can notice both my second and third Extractors...
