Shocking images of animal abuse released by the RSPCA to highlight the thousands of cases
they come across every year. A lurcher dog left with a fractured leg and punctured lung
after being shot many times. X-rays carried out by the vet showed 17 pellets embedded
in his body. The one-year-old lucky to be alive. This pigeon shot in the eye with a
blowgun. A cat shot in the head with an air gun. One of almost 800 such attacks this year
alone. A fox with its mouth tied shut and popped into a box. A length of copper pipe
shoved between her jaws. Sadly her injuries meant she had to be put down. And it's not
just the animals under attack. RSPCA staff also finding themselves in the firing line.
Three-quarters of inspectors suffering abuse during their normal working day. And not just
verbal intimidation...but also threatened with hammers, knives, crossbows, machetes
and shotguns. The charity's calling for the public to get behind its everyday heroes.
