Hi everyone and welcome back. Draw in Mario Paint. How to KO with Evander Holyfield. Baby Sinclair the videogame? HISTÓRIA REVISTA is on.
Ação Games nr 19, September 1992, 14,000 cruzeiros, the famous inflation we know so well.
In the cover big names like Mario Paint, Robocop and Evander Holyfield in weird drawings and Baby Sinclair and his Disney copyright.
First thing is a highlight from this time, Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP 2 launch in the Sega systems.
In his words: "i tried to bring to the game the true feelings from a race; the challenge to compete,to win, be the number 1 and have fun at the same time".
Today only the ad, we'll see more from the game in a future episode with the issue where they did the full review.
And if the mexicans where invited for a trip to Disney with El Chapulin, why not us, brazilians? We were with our hero, Senna!
Send the coupon included in the game with your best times and you're in the run to some other prizes too.
And here is the controversy point in this episode. The Dinosaurs will have-slash-had their videogame?
Of course not. The so-called 'dinomania' was on full throttle and this magazine was tottally renewed and needed to sell more,
so they used a poll with the readers as an excuse, the Dinosaurs won and they got a reason to put this *** on the cover.
But, for a moment, lets be cool with the guys; maybe, in a long shot, they saw a preview of Dinosaurs for Hire,
a Contra-style shooter by Sega released in 1993.
In the other page one of the big games, Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing, Genesis and Game Gear.
Sega did this game because at the time he was unbeaten and the new world champion over James "Buster" Douglas, and years before when he won over Mike Tyson
Sega called him and released "his" game. The american port of Taito's Final Blow now was named James "Buster" Douglas Boxing
and when he lost, it was Holyfield's turn. Sega was very quick because we all remember what Nintendo and Mike Tyson did in the past.
At the time, Mike Tyson was in the jail convicted of "raep"... WTF, "raep"?
Mike Tyson was in the jail convicted of *** and it was hard to find any good boxing games from Nintendo
Something we'll talk in another episode. In December of 1992 Holyfield lost the title to Riddick Bowe and his game was also made, some company
made this clone from Sega. The name was Riddick Bowe Boxing, in latin America the game was named after Julio Cesar Chavez.
It was the same game, only the language and the protagonist switched. At the time they released those games Holyfield was the champion again.
Now back to the magazine; this game was easily outmatched by the sequel, Greatest Heavyweights of the Ring.
Just like today sports games, one year later, a few changes and there you go, a better game.
Now we could choose Holyfield and other champions like Ali, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, differences in height and weight,
battery to save your games and support to the 6 button pad, new features that we feel it could be done in the first game.
Here we see Electronic Arts name in two games side by side, NHL Hockey and Jordan vs Bird, true classics.
The first got the maximum grade, the other almost the lowest. Did Stevie Wonder helped in some way?
Now SNES games starting with Robocop 3 and his high grade, believe it or not. Only half walkthrough, the other half in another issue.
Now a big release: Mario Paint. What is a mouse, how to use the icons and those horrible drawings of them to explain how a drawing game works.
Hat Trick Hero AKA Super Soccer Champ, that game famous for the Super Shoot, everyone said they knew how to do it but they all are liars.
I only saw this happening once, dont ask me how. You can find this one and another 43 games in Taito Legends 2 on PS2, Xbox and PC.
Prince of Persia on SNES, half walkthrough just like Robocop. Someone thought it was cool to insert those pics if they where rugs on the side.
Darkwing Duck on NES, at the time some guys sold a hack of this game as Megaman 5.
On PC games we got another classic, Castle of Wolfenstein 3D. That was the first time a FPS was in this magazine and They talked about the first chapter only,
it was the shareware, another new feature.
More classic stuff: Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition. In the last edition they talked only about the bosses, now the changes on the other characters.
In another moment straight from the 90s they used a semi-profanation in this ad from Dynavision 3 Radical, "a shitload of weapons".
In the last page we have more classics: Civilization, Monkey Island 2, Lemmings and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.
And that was our show, Ação Games 19, September 1992. 14,000 cruzeiros. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more episodes. See you all next time.
