For applicants from a country where English is not your first language, or for those applicants
whose arrival date in Canada is after the following date [January 1, 2012]
you may be required to present proof of English Proficiency as part of your application.
Ryerson will send a letter to your Choose>Ryerson portal page indicating if you are required
to present proof of English Proficiency. You can find your Choose>Ryerson portal page through the following link.
The letter that you'll find in your Choose>Ryerson
portal account will have the steps that you need to follow in order to submit your English Proficiency to Ryerson University.
Step 1: Login to www.ryerson.ca/accounts and
create your Ryerson Online Identity. To do this, you will need you nine-digit Ryerson
Student Number. This number can be found in your Choose>Ryerson portal account.
Step 2: You will not have immediate access to your Ryerson account. Please allow at least
24 hours for your Online Identity to fully activate.
Step 3: Login to your activated account page and let us know which test you will be submitting
as part of your English Proficiency. If you're choosing the RTEP, which is the
Ryerson Test of English Proficiency, please choose a date that best works for you.
Login to your RAMSS account and select the RAMSS tab. Under the Admissions subsection,
select RTEP Registration. Next, register for an available RTEP test date. You are encouraged
to register for the earliest possible RTEP test date. Writing a later test may delay
an admissions decision as decisions are made subject to admission requirements, competition, and space availability.
If you'll be submitting an alternate test
such as TOEFL, MELAB, CAEL, IELTS, or the Pearson Test of English, please indicate the
approximate date by which Ryerson will receive your test score into the space provided and submit.
Once Ryerson has received this information,
you'll be able to see your English Proficiency results posted to your Choose>Ryerson portal.
Finally, you may feel that you should be exempted from providing proof of English Proficiency
based on time spent in an English-medium school, or perhaps your academic performance. If you
would like to apply for an Exemption Request, the form can be found here.
Please note, if you are submitting an Exemption Request, there are no need to activate your
Online Identity as you do not intend to write the RTEP or submit an alternate test.
When a decision is made regarding your Exemption Request, you will find that decision in your Choose>Ryerson portal page.
Exemption Requests are not guaranteed.
If your Exemption is denied, you will be required to present proof of English Proficiency by
submitting an alternate test or by taking the RTEP. To do this, follow Steps 1 through 3.
