How are you doing?
Prepare to get emotional. A man who says he was stopped from taking his own life by a
complete stranger has been reunited with him, after launching an online campaign to find him.
My name is Jonny Benjamin. Six years ago, on the 14th of January 2008 at around 10 AM,
I came to Waterloo Bridge to take my life. I was approached by a total stranger that
stopped to talk to me and offered to buy me a coffee. He was the first person to give
me hope, and his words actually prompted my recovery. Now, I need your help to find him.
The movement soon went viral, with #FindMike trending across the world, and it worked.
The Good Samaritan, whose actual name is Neil Laybourn, got in touch and the pair were finally reunited.
I'm alright. Good.
I saw you on TV. I saw you speaking on the TV. Don't be nervous honestly.
Then when we sat down, we began talking. There was a moment when everything just came back
to me. I could see him there on that bridge, and there he was now in front of me.
It was just overwhelming.
It's just unbelievable because oh my gosh.
Do you remember me?
Yeah, now that I've seen you, it's all coming back.
Really? You standing on the side of me and um...
He definitely said it's all coming back now, and I can remember your mannerisms and I can
remember your voice, and you know I can see you.
Jonny is making a documentary about his search, in partnership with charity Rethink Mental
Illness. The film is expected to be ready this spring.
