Hi everyone. In this video, I want to walk you through the steps that you will need to
take in order to have your holdings in the knowledge base be maintained in the WorldCat
database.
There are three simple steps involved to maintain your holdings in WorldCat. First, go ahead
and choose a symbol that you want to have OCLC set your holdings on in the WorldCat
database and then go into Library Holdings and turn the Maintain Holdings in WorldCat
on for all collections in your knowledge base.
Last, on a collection by collection basis, if you don't want to have your holdings attached,
you can turn the option to maintain WorldCat holdings for that collection from yes to no.
So let's take a look on how that's done in the WorldShare interface. So here I am in
the WorldShare interface under Manage Collections. You will see a button called Settings. First,
you will click on that. Expand out Knowledge Base and choose the OCLC symbol that you want
us to attach your holdings to in the WorldCat database.
The OCLC symbols that you see here will be taken from the WorldCat registry. Once you
have chosen your OCLC symbol, click on Save to save that setting.
Once you've done that, the next thing you will need to do is go to Library Holdings.
Expand out Maintain Holdings in WorldCat and it's first set as no. Change it to yes and
then again go up to the top right hand corner and click on Save.
The next step is if your library has a particular collection that you do not want holdings attached
in the knowledge base, you can go and search for that specific collection. So let's say
my library, I don't want the Allen Press journals collection to have holdings attached in the
WorldCat database for any of the titles.
I would open up that collection, go to the Properties tab, expand that out and scroll
down to where it says "maintain WorldCat holdings". I will change that option from yes to no.
Scroll back up to the right hand corner and click on Save.
Now all of your holdings that you have in WorldCat, the knowledge base, will have holdings
attached, will find matching records in the WorldCat master record and attach holdings
to, except for those titles in the Allan Press journal collection.
You can do this on a collection by collection basis for any other collections that you don't
want to have holdings set in the WorldCat database. When you're done, log out of the
WorldShare interface and that's it.
