What is migration? There are 2 types of migration. Forced migration
is referred to the movement of refugees as well as people displaced by natural disasters
or environmental disasters. Voluntary migration is when people choose to migrate to a different
country, possibly for work purposes. Mexican migration is an example of voluntary migration.
What's happening is that more than 1 million Mexicans migrate to the US every year, and
illegal migration is a huge problem for the US and Mexico. The push factors are the reasons
why people might be leaving the area. The push factors for people leaving Mexico are
that there is a lack of services, lack of safety, crop failure, poverty, and high crime.
The pull factors are the benefits of migrating to the other place. Some of the reasons why
people leave Mexico are that they have higher employment, more wealth, better services,
political stability and better medical care.
The
advantages of going to the US to migrate is that Mexicans migrating have more jobs, because
the unemployment rate is lower in Mexico, so by moving to the US, the have an access
to more jobs and a higher salary. By moving to the US, Mexicans have a better living lifestyle
as Mexicans couldn't get access to jobs or education, so by moving, they can benefit
from this. The life expectancy for men and women is much better than in Mexico. The disadvantages
are that there is a 2000 km border between the US and Mexico, so if they get caught,
they will have to walk back the long journey. The disadvantages of leaving Mexico are that
only the young can undertake the journey. This means that the elderly will be left behind,
but they won't be able to do any work as they are unable to.
