How to Paint with Acrylic Paint: Keeping Acrylic Paint from Drying too Fast
Hi, I'm Linda. I created a company called Paint Along. Check us out at paintalongnyc.com.
We have really fun painting workshops in Nashville and New York. Acrylic paints typically dry
very quickly. That's a good advantage because you can work a lot on one particular painting
in a short amount of time. However, if you don't want your paint to be drying out you
can use a couple of different methods to keep your paint fresh. One thing that you can use
while you're painting if your paints start to get a little film on the top of them you
may want to spray them with a spray bottle with water in it. And you just take a small
bottle and you just sprits the top of it and it keeps the paint from drying out too quickly
as you're working. Another way to do this is to use a slow drying medium that you can
buy at the craft store. And what you want to do is take this medium and mix a few drops
in with your paint. It's a very kind of milky looking liquid. And what I'm going to do is
just take a little bit of my red and blend it in with this medium. It also makes the
paint quite a bit more fluid and makes it last a lot longer. Gives you much more open
time with the paint. So it acts more like an oil painting in that case. So those are
two methods of keeping your paint fresh and keeping them from drying out too quickly.
Another good tips is that if you're mixing a color and you want to remember what that
color is try to keep a little piece of the color on the back that way when you go back
to mix your color you'll have something to refer to.
