Begin by changing into the appropriate scrubs and footwear
as outlined in your organization's policies and procedures.
Then remove all jewelry.
People with long hair should apply a hairnet
or tie hair back from their face.
You will need to locate a donning partner who will assist you with
the steps involved in donning your personal protective equipment.
You and your partner should take each others vital signs and record the results
on the Type C PPE Safety Checklist.
Drink six to eight fluid ounces of a non-caffeinated
preferably sports type drink.
Gather all of the ppe items:
biological protective suit
boot liners
shoe covers
PAPR with tubing, making sure to test the PAPR battery
PAPR hood
two pairs of gloves
exam gloves and extra protection exam gloves.
Screw two HEPA filters to the PAPR unit.
Make sure the plug is screwed securely into the bottom port.
Test the PAPR unit using the provided flow tester.
Make sure it indicates battery strength
and filter flow above the minimum line.
Apply plastic boot liners
and tape to the outside of your scrub pants.
Remember to make tabs at the end of the tape
for easy removal.
While sitting on a chair
apply a biological protective suit up to the waist
keep your scrubs, socks and shoes on.
For easy removal the biological protective suit should not be a close fit.
With the assistance of your donning partner
put on a pair of shoe covers.
You can secure the covers with tape to the outside of the biological protective suit if desired.
Next, wash your hands with either soap and water
or use alcohol gel.
Apply close fitting exam gloves.
Apply the biological protective suit to the upper body
and pull the zipper to just above your waist.
The hood should be tucked into the back of the suit
to prevent it becoming obstructive.
Strap the PAPR battery pack to your waist.
The unit should fit comfortably and securely at the small of your back.
Your donning partner can now attach the tubing to the PAPR battery pack.
Apply the extra protection latex gloves
and seal the cuffs to the suit with tape.
Attach the PAPR tubing to the hood and apply the hood
adjusting as necessary for a comfortable fit.
Pull the outer layer of the hood over your head
and have your donning partner tuck the inner layer into the neck of the suit.
Zip the suit to the neck.
Remove the paper tape from the sticky side of the zipper flap
and seal the zipper closure.
Pull the outer layer of the hood down over the shoulders.

using the Type C PPE safety checklist

On entering the patients room
apply latex free gloves to provide patient care.
