Hi, this is Bob from Classic Toy Trains magazine. Today we're going to take a
look at the
Lionel LionChief Plus Canadian Pacific 4-6-2 steam locomotive.
The LionChief Plus line involves a locomotive
and involves a command controler but also adds something extra to
the mix.
You can also run this locomotive in conventional mode. The LionChief Plus
remote control is about as simple as you can get. The
speed control wheel is shaped like a steam locomotive wheel.
You turn it to the right to go forward and turn it back to the left to go in
reverse.
there's a an LED in the middle that flashes faster
when the locomotive is moving faster. The locomotor slows down the
pulsing of the light slows down.
There are buttons for bell and whistle. And theyalso serve
to unlock or open the coil couplers if the locomotive is so equipped.
This locomotive has a rear coupler only and
there's also a button in the middle for activation of
onboard train announcements, train sounds.
Let's walk through the locomotive and I'll talk about some other features.
First off, you'll notice, is the
locomotor tooling is very nice very clean.
It's accentuated by the very nice Canadian Pacific
paint scheme. I noticed really no flaws in the application of paint at all.
The headlight is as flicker-free as I have ever seen a headlight.
The locomotive does have a fan powered smoke unit.
On the fireman's side of the cab you have the transformer remote so if you operate
with a handheld remote control
flip it to the right if you want to operate conventionally with the transformer,
a regular transformer,
flip it to the left. Then you have your on off
smoke and on off chuff switches
under the engineer side. The locomotive cab has two crew figures. It has a decorated
back heed
and there's a firebox glow. A red light illuminates and gives a
flickering
visual effect as the locomotive is running around.
The controls for the operation of the locomotive are all located in the tender.
You got the speaker you got the sound system which RailSounds RC,
presumably for remote control, and a very nice feature is the coil coupler.
which you can open using the remote control unit.
And let's trigger the remote coupler. So lets start this locomotive up and
watch it go through its paces.
So there you have it. The Lionel LionChief Plus Canadian Pacific 4-6-2.
Remember, you can operate this in command mode with the
hand-held remote unit on any layout with a transformer that provides 18 volts
power
or you can operate conventionally with any transformer.
So be sure to read the complete review in the
