My name is Shaantha and I am studying a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Financial
Planning. Actually it was the environment at Curtin that attracted me to it. I could
have gone to UWA if I wanted to but it just seemed more lively, more open, more light
and a lot more practical which I find was a lot more interactive, especially for me
wanting to go to work compared to UWA.
Curtin just won out in so many respects. The campus is just so fantastic, it's so multicultural
and the business course is just so dynamic. You get to do so much practical work it's
fantastic.
I'm currently working at PriceWaterhouseCoopers as a trainee accountant and when I finish
my degree I will be working there full time as an assistant consultant. I got through
to PWC through Accounting Experience which is an undergraduate Year 12 course run by
Curtin University whereby you just do the introductory Accounting 100 unit while you
are in Year 12 on top of your TEE.
And then you get selected to do Conquest at PWC which is the assessment centre and they
offer you a job, hopefully. The staff are fantastic, especially the lecturers in the
business school. They are so willing to go above and beyond in just teaching you what
you need to know. They are willing to get you in touch with people in the industry and
really make an effort to, you know, make sure that when you go out, when you graduate from
Curtin, you are going to find a job somewhere out in the big wide world.
