Forced Fumbles....
Efficiency on offense.....
And an amped up Homecoming crowd at Robertson Stadium
Helped lift the UH Cougars to a 38-15 Win over SMU on Saturday
Our guys came out and played with a sense of urgency early, defensive was opportunistic...
WITH AN EMPHASIS ON BALL SECURITY BY THE OFFENSVE AND FORCING TURNOVERS ON DEFENSE… THE COOGS TURNED THE TABLES ON SMU
coming into the game they were 4th in the country in forced turnovers and second in interceptions
CJ CAVNESS WROTE THE COUGARS DEFENSIVE STORYLINE … FORCING THE FIRST FUMBLE… WHICH SET UP THE CASE KEENUM AND COMPANY FOR THE FIRST TOUCHDOWN DRIVE… HE RECOVERED TWO OTHER FORCED FUMBLES…. AND RECORDED 18 TACKLES.
Defense wins us championships, that’s what they say, I think us playing with great energy kept the offense going, they fed off of us, we fed off of them, it was a good team win
Being opportunistic on defense has a lot to do with being a team, you can create a turnover but to be opportunistic you need to score off that turnover and if we continue to do that, you win a lot of games doing that.
THE COUGARS HAVE CLIMBED TO NO. 15 IN THE AP POLL AND 16 IN THE COACHES’ POLL… BUT DROPPED ONE NOTCH TO 18 IN THE BCS STANDINGS.
Winning the west and winning the conference is one of our goals and this is the next step in doing that
6-1 and as a coach and as a coach to think you haven’t played your best football yet is pretty encouraging
AND SO WAS THIS TEAM;S ABILITY TO SUCCESSFULLY SWITCH UP ITS OFFENSIVE THREATS…. FRESHMAN CHARLES SIMMS ENDED THE NIGHT WITH 128 TOTAL YARDS… 105 ON THE GROUND WHILE PATRICK EDWARDS RACKED UP 122 YARS RECEIVING.
you got to take what the defense gives you and we had the run for the majority part of the night
good blocking up there for the special team guys, they put their heart into it and I had to reward them for it
NEXT UP… THE COOGS LOOK TO EXTEND THEIR 12-GAME HOME WINSTREAK AGAINST SOUTHERN MISS SATURDAY…
