Hi everyone, it's Sarah from Hair Thursday.
And today I want to show you how to do
my very favorite hairstyle...
These loose, natural-looking waves that I have achieved
by using a curling iron, but not using the clamp,
and I'm going to show you how to do it today.
Maybe I'm dating myself here, but I'm sure many of you might
remember back in the day when we used to curl our hair with
curling irons, and we'd rat our bangs and get them really big,
and it was just a -- it was -- it was obvious we had used
a curling iron on our hair.
There were little crimp marks left at the bottom
from the clamp, and it was just a tighter curl,
and maybe just not looking so natural.
But nowadays, it's so easy to achieve a much more natural,
bouncy wave using a curling iron and not having to worry about
even dealing with that clamp.
So, let's go ahead and get started.
First off, I wanted to talk to you briefly about curling irons.
As you probably know, there are tons of curling irons on the
market, and you need to pick what works best for you.
When going for this natural look without using a clamp on the
curling iron, there are a lot of curling irons out there
that don't have a clamp at all, and those work really well.
I actually have a couple of them myself, but to be completely
honest with you, my all-time favorite curling iron
is probably the least expensive one I own,
and it is a Hot Tools one-inch curling iron.
It's a one-inch barrel, it's not even ceramic,
it's just, you know, the metal curling iron.
And out of all of my curling irons, whether they be
really expensive, or really inexpensive, whatever they do,
this one is my absolute favorite.
And even though it does have a clamp on it,
I just use it without the clamp.
And it's super easy; I'm going to show you how right now.
I prefer to curl my hair holding my iron downwards.
That way, when I release the curl, it just drops naturally
and I think it holds a much more natural-looking curl
when it's pointed downward.
So, what you want to do is come behind the hair with the curling
iron, and then just wrap the hair around the barrel
and just hold it for however long you need to.
For me, it's about 15 to 20 seconds.
Try to keep that tip of the hair as close as you can to the
barrel without actually touching it and burning your fingers.
So hold it like that, and then when you're ready to let go,
just let go of the curl like this,
and I'll show you what it looks like.
Just a very nice, loose curl that doesn't have
any clamp marks at the bottom.
So, I'm just going to go ahead, section off my hair,
and start curling all of it.
What I've done, at this point, is basically section my hair off
from above the ear and around, and I've just put it up in
a clip on the top of my head, leaving this bottom layer
of hair, and I'm just going to work through slowly,
and curl all of these sections of hair.
Wrapping the hair around the barrel and then holding the ends
of my hair as close to the barrel as possible without
touching it, because that would hurt.
When you're ready, just let go of the curl, pull your iron out,
and you can see the curl it creates.
Okay, now that I've finished curling the bottom layer of
my hair, you can see that it's a really soft-looking curl,
nothing too tight, just very natural looking,
and obviously no clamp marks.
Now that I've finished the middle layer, I'm going
to go ahead and release the rest of my hair on top,
and work on curling this upper part of my hair.
So, just remember to start with the curling iron behind your
strand of hair, because you want to keep the curl going away from
your face instead of forward, and then release the curl, and
there you have it again, just a really natural-looking curl.
So I'm going to go ahead and work through
the rest of my hair.
Okay, so I finished working through the top layer of
my hair, and now all of my hair has been curled
with the curling iron.
It might be a good time right now to kind of look at your
curls, make sure there aren't any pieces that you accidentally
left out, and then you can do quick touch-ups with that.
And then, for me, I just spray a little bit of hair spray,
just a little bit of spray, just on each side to help hold
the curls throughout the day, and you're finished.
It was that easy.
Once again, it's just a really natural-looking curl
that doesn't have any awkward-looking crimps
from a curling iron clamp.
So, I hope you all liked this tutorial,
and I'll talk to you all soon.
Bye.
