Hi, I'm Karen, for Expert Village. Now I'm going to remove the basting threads and open
my zipper and then complete my topstitching over here. So, to remove the basting stitches,
you want to use a seam ripper like this, and just carefully pick and pull that open like
this. And then you want to pull out all the extra threads. Go all the way down, just kind
of pick and pull those - they should come out easily because you used a large stitch
length, a basting stitch,
and then you need to just pull out all those thread pieces like that. You don't want to leave any loose pieces of
thread hanging out because they can get jammed in your zipper, being careful not to cut or
damage your fabric. Now, to finish the topstitching, you want to open your zipper and line up the
fabric
and then continue and match. Now if you're using a thread that matches the fabric, you
won't see this little joint, it will be almost invisible, or at least camouflaged. There
is our flapped-over zipper installation!
