About 15 years ago, you almost never saw Hyundais in Holland.
Someone had a Pony in my neighborhood, but that wasn't really a car you wanted to have.
If you were shopping in that class, you'd rather buy a Toyota.
But in the last 5 years Hyundai have really been booming.
In recent years their cars have become very recognizable...
...because they share the same design style.
People like it, Mercedes has even hired designers away from Hyundai.
That says something about your design.
But it's all quite mass market so to speak.
But now they've launched the Veloster.
Wouter also had difficulties with it. -The Flosser, I'll just call it Flosser.
The Hyundai Flosser, difficult name.
How do you pronounce it? The Veloster?
The Veloster.
It's a cheeky car, it's a bit of a cross between a coupe and a hatchback.
It's got three doors, one on the left and two on the right.
But they're not the first with that, Mini has done it with the Clubman.
But this door is hinged differently.
But I'm telling too many details now, you're not interested in those at all.
Let's skip that.
This whole car comes across more creative and hip than I ever thought an Hyundai could be.
Bugatti has even copied its exhaust on their new Veyron Supersport.
It's not hard to pick an engine...
...there's just one to choose from. A 1.6 liter with 140 hp.
It does 0-62 in 9.8 seconds and has a top speed of 125 mph.
It emits 132 grams of CO2 per km...
...it has an A-label and it does 42 mpg.
It starts at 24 grand, 23,995 euros.
This is the top of the range model.
It's a test car, so they don't give you the base model.
29,995 euros and you're the man.
That buys you a panoramic sunroof, bluetooth connectivity...
...electrically adjustable seat, leather upholstery.
Basically it's just very complete.
Martijn asks me how it drives.
It's hard for me to tell because this car is brand new.
So the rough edges still have to be driven off.
I especially notice that the tires squeak a lot when you push the car hard.
But that'll wear off.
This car drives reasonably comfortable, especially for a car with 18 inch wheels.
18 inch!
It's not that bouncy.
The engine only comes alive over 4000 rpm...
...below that it doesn't do much. It's a bit lazy.
So you have to keep the revs up when you want to drive quickly.
I do have a couple of complaints. The design is very nice...
...but as a result I can't see a thing to my left. Visibility isn't great.
There are also some details that are a bit flimsy, a bit cheap.
There are also some problems under the hood.
I don't think the engine cover has survived it.
Right, Korean quality.
If you're in the market for a cool, hip, couple-like car...
...and if you have some money to spend then the Veloster is an option.
But I do think it's a bit underpowered.
But next year they'll introduce a 1.6 turbo that is rumored to have 210 hp.
That would be the icing on the cake.
So our advice is not to buy one now, but to wait a year and get the turbo.
