Thank you very much.
The first panel
discussed how
inequalities are
formidable obstacle
to inclusive
sustainable development.
And also
how the efforts to inequalities are often isolated and fragmented which
end up in diverting resources to symptoms rather than to root causes.
And my co-panelists here are going to address
many issues
regarding structural
discriminations and those that have been reinforced through the social, legal, and
culture spheres.
So I'm going to touch upon
two points
which are really very simple when you
look at them but they
go to the core of what
the common factors driving and sustaining these inequalities are.
And
Rosa touched on
the first point a little bit.
I would like to elaborate
and that is
one of the most challenging inequalities is that
the disparities of opportunities and capacity
for
individuals to act as protagonists in the process of global development.
And
justin broad based development must ultimately rest on the uniquely
human endowment
of individuals and communities
for becoming agents of positive change
and positive social change in their
communities. Especially
women and minorities and other vulnerable groups, such as indigenous people,
as Mirna has pointed out earlier.
The report asks the central question of what should be equalized. And
this is really at the core of the issue
Because until we can clarify the nature of the problem,
we won't be able to take coordinated steps to address it.
And at a fundamental level I think we all know that we are all
equal or at least we are told to respect the universal activation of human rights that's when
human beings are
born free and equal in dignity and rights.
However, once we society the difference is present themselves in many
forms: structural, cultural, economic.
And these determine the range of opportunities
for the individual to develop and thieve.
Opportunities which
quickly compound or lack
there of which blocks development.
We need to think carefully about what equal opportunity really looks like
and for example,
two children may have to see a opportunity to attend school, it
it doesn't imply they have the same opportunity to learn
to be safe,
to be fairly evacuated and to thrive,
particularly if one of the children is a girl or
a member of an ethnic or religious minority or
another disadvantaged group.
So it's
the responsibility of governments to provide for the means and measures
by which opportunities can be extended to all members
of society.
Change also needs to take place and this is is one that cuts
particularly.. that
goes to the second question that's been posed to us.
Change needs to take place at
level of attitudes
in our mind sets and the way we view and interpret our own social reality.
this dimension of inequality at the level of fourteen attitude
needs to be up
as special concerned because that's not prejudicial and conflicts gatech
attitudes towards individuals and communities at best
and transformed
discrimination will continue to manifest in the structures in institutions of
society no matter
how rent
the policies
that are formulated and at these attitudes began entrenched in the
country of the community
so executes its
acting like one of the individual and of course in the understand that an
activity of the institutions the also understand that in
those of us working in human rights

uh... protagonist in development is that there with the community
and it's it's at that level of it
of the culture

and based on
gender-based age social economic
this access religion
depletion it's a trap
have become the basis for this discrimination creating the concepts
that the absent again

therefore we have to

i'm going to go
just end by saying that the injustices evident in the prodigal between rep and
require much more this conflict
methodologies and technical
critics admissions
because it's not only uh... it's only
as board members of the human family and friends who to make that contribution
to the betterment of society
and then there's the distribution and use of resources are arranged in a week
that connects each to do so
we progress against the old beach uh...
ito inspector inequality and iniquity
