http://www.elementsofmemory.com We forget things all the time, from our car keys to
movie titles to birthdays. Most of the time if you relax and let your brain work, the
memory you’re looking for will crop up, but what if you can’t?
What if you started losing your ability to remember even your most cherished memories?
One highly preventable cause of memory loss is sleep deprivation. Have you ever gotten
to work and don’t remember actually driving there? Do you think it's possible to increase
your memory to avoid memory loss?
Not only is that scary, it may be a good indication that you are not getting enough rest. It can
be like you’re thoughtlessly coasting through your day on autopilot.
If you’re too tired to remember what happened or what you did, then you are definitely experiencing
memory loss due to sleep deprivation, and it’s a good idea to treat it before you
hurt somebody or continue to blindly burn away hours in your day.
As a more serious example, let’s say you forget to take medication, or already took
it and doubled up on it because you couldn’t remember taking it.
Though this isn’t always serious, it could result in a quick trip to the hospital, or
worse. There are some medications that can cause sleep disturbances, resulting in memory
loss, or the medication itself can make it harder for you to concentrate.
This could not only be dangerous to you, but also to others around you. When memory loss
begins to affect your health, it’s time to seek some help.
Of course not all memory loss is caused by sleep deprivation. Whatever the problem is,
it’s always best to catch it early enough to slow down the progress. When you are sleep
deprived, take advantage of naps whenever possible.
It is imperative to learn how to relax, particularly before bedtime, so that you can get a good
night’s rest and refresh your body and your mind.
Remember, if you don’t care for your body and mind, it can’t continue to function
properly.
