It is UNC Charlotte's commitment to provide a safe and healthy working, teaching and learning
environment which has prompted us to collaborate with Charlotte MEDIC on the CPR mass training
initiative. It is our goal to create an atmosphere of safety and health awareness through training
as well as employee and student involvement. We're trying to get people out there to say
-- Hey, well my significant other, my friends, my dorm mate, my roommate, my coworkers, they
don't know CPR so who's going to save my life if I was to suffer a cardiac arrest? -- so
we're trying to get people to learn CPR and pass along that information that it is important
and that you are piece of the chain of survival. Our larger goal of training 5,000 people in
CPR is not going to get done by training little groups everyday -- you know -- we need mass
trainings. So we asked UNCC -- because of Darius -- if we could come out and train a
mass -- the masses here; the students, the faculty, the staff, we wanted to come out
and train over 200 people. So, today is our first shot at seeing how many people we can
get in here and actually get them down on their knees doing chest compressions and learning
to save a life. I know that safety is a big thing at UNCC and we're glad to see that your
spreading this awareness throughout and we hope that other colleges, other schools, other
big businesses will follow suit. Simply put, CPR training saves lives and here
at UNC Charlotte we are committed to saving lives whether it be you're swimming in our
Belk gymnasium, whether it be that you are participating in sporting events, or whether
you are an electrician working here on our campus. We want to ensure that you can learn
the skills necessary to empower you to save a life.
