So, once you're inside angle you can treat this pose like an intensive hip opener and
strengthener. Often folks will attempt the pose going hand first. So, bend the leg, put
the hand down. See the hips are up and you have this bend in your spine. It's very hard
to overcome this habit. What we want to do is drop pelvis first. Switch the root to point
towards the opposite leg, push with the opposite leg, and reach out through the crown. Take
that knee back behind your shoulder. I've got the shoulder in front of the knee so the
knee will go back. If I put the shoulder in front of the knee the knee will go forward.
I want the knee back, the sits bone coming forward, tail bone coming under. Feel the
openness here. Now, your job in this pose and it's challenging to do is to use this
leg, your straight leg, to lift this whole half of the pelvis up and over and this other
half, the lower half, down and under. Look how strong that foot is. I'm using that leg,
that foot like crazy. I press with that leg and go out through the crown. Lengthen, you
can do whatever you want with your arm here; take it up, right here, right here, whatever
you want.
