Hi I'm Jenny Hepler and welcome to this episode of Bring Napkins - the travel show
that lets you taste the world
Today we're in Los Angeles on Olvera Street.
Ah, LA
with her palm trees and perpetual sunshine, she's a city easy
to fall in love with
most visitors will take in the stunning architecture of her downtown
and the luxury of beverly hills
with its world famous dining, you can definitely treat yourself here
trying some mexican cuisine at Frida in the heart beverly hills
even the food is beautiful here have a look at these desserts, flan, churros,
these are my favorite
fried dough covered in sugar and cinnamon
i'll have them all please
when you filled up your belly it's time to empty your wallet with
some of the world's best shopping on rodeo drive
after you've shopped till you dropped head on over to hollywood for some stargazing
on hollywood boulevard and don't forget to cruise down the sunset strip
LA native robert michaels tells us about a part of LA some tourists
miss - Olvera street
It's true, many people come to visit LA - they visit Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, Venice Beach,
but they don't understand the strong mexican influence that's here
attracting around 2 million visitors a year, Olvera street is definitely worth
discovering
it's easy to find located down town just across from union station
here you can wonder back in time to the streets of old mexico
stroll along the many stands and uncover some hidden gems
while feasting your eyes on the mesmorizing colors
los angeles was founded in seventeen eighty one on the site southeast of
Olvera street by a group of spanish settlers
it started out as an alley called wine st
than it was extended and renamed after local judge augustine olvera
eighteen seventy seven
It was then converted into a colorful marketplace
today is also the setting for many mexican holiday celebrations such as
the day of the dead
while listening to some music try some taquitos
filled with beef and drenched in avocado sauce. delicious don't forget the hot sauce
so good. It's all about the sauce.
watch as they make some fresh tortillas and serve them up with your choice of toppings
such as beans and rice
there's the fresh tacos too - spice it up however much you like
with some more of that hot sauce
There's my churros again
warm and just the right way to end the day
till next time LA
thanks for joining us today
and as always
don't forget - bring napkins
