On my trip to Germany, we stayed at an Apartment Hotel. When checking in, I was asked to sign
the following paper, stating that I would accept that I would be charged One thousand,
five hundred Euro’s, if I set off the fire alarm and had not followed their instructions.
Their instructions included making sure the kitchen extract was used when cooking and
opening up the apartment windows. Opening up the windows was a definite “No, No”
for me, as the temperature in Germany during my stay was as low as -4c in the evenings.
Now when I entered my relatively small apartment, I had the following detection: A heat in the
kitchen, a smoke detector in the bedroom, a smoke detector in the living area, a smoke
detector in the lobby. As you can guest, with my cooking skills,
I did not chance carrying out any cooking in my apartment and the hotel had no false
alarms during my stay. Maybe this is the way to reduce false Alarms in the UK?
