[music] 'Silent NIght, Holy Night'
It was quite obvious as we approached the scene that it was quite a serious crash
There was a lot of damage to both vehicles, it was late at night
and it was a very busy road so I imagine both cars were probably travelling quite fast
I thought the worst and feared that both drivers had probably sustained quite severe injuries
[music] 'All is calm, All is bright'
I had my suspicions due to it being late at night and the weekend
that alcohol could have been involved
but I wasn't aware of it at the time
I think, when you have these instances with drink driving
it just causes devastation and it's so sad because
it can be avoided and it isn't something that should happen
but unfortunately it happens quite frequently.
[music] 'Round yon *** Mother and Child'
Obviously, when you declare a fatality on scene
it's extremely sad but there isn't time to dwell on it
because you have other things to do and another patient to look after
and all your concentration then moves on to that.
[music] 'Holy infant so tender and mild'
Part of my job is, unfortunately, having to declare people deceased
and it's awful having to do it at a car accident
especially when alcohol is related because it's such a waste of life
It's completely preventable and should never happen
and people are making a choice decision to get into cars
when they've been drinking; it causes devastating effects
and should never happen.
[music] 'Sleep in Heavenly Peace'
