Tip:
Highlight text to annotate it
X
footnotes are basically just a note or reference at the bottom of the
page about something in the document
i've highlighted some texts here in this document that i'm going to make
footnotes
and their relatively easy to do
and going to click on
the area right after
the text that i want to make the footnote
insert
footnote endnote
i'm going to leave this automatic and leave this footnote
clicking ok
shows there's a one
I'm going to place what i want
my note to say
and there's a simple footnote added
i want to add one more here with
thunderbird
insert
footnote end-note
leaving automatic footnote
OK
and there's my text
so that's one-way to put some simple footnotes into your document
now we want to have 2
pieces of text refer to the same footnote maybe with a... an asterisk
going down I have my text highlighted here that i wanna
jump to
and i'm going to insert
footnote endnote
this time i want the character here
i'm going to click on this
button here and select this asterisks
okay i'm leaving this footnote
and clicking okay
there's my asterisks and
putting in my text
now i want
this paint dot net
to refer to that same
footnote
so this time
iI say insert
cross reference
footnote
i want this one with the asterisk
and i want to make this
a reference
clicking insert
close and
there it is
if i want
my
two symbols to look at the exactly alike
i need to change my cross-reference my footnote
i was unable to get that one to change but if you
highlight that
go to format
character
change this to superscript
clicking ok
now they look exactly alike
and putting the uh... cursor over
makes link down to the bottom
and that works with these others up here as well too if i go up to this one
click on that it takes me down to one
If I put the hand over two
it brings me down to my
reference two
now that looks pretty good but if i want to update this file of my footnote
i would
open up my style
i'm going to dock it to the side here
and when i click down here
we see that we've got a footnote modify
we can change the font or the style
from this area here
now changing these numbers if i wanted to say roman numerals instead of
arabic numerals one and two
we have to do something little more drastic there
so let's remove these
and i'm going to do that
by just deleting
my footnote
and we see them disappear
this one with a cross-reference
if we'd
don't dlete the cross reference first
well I'll show you what happens
i can delete this
and it delete's the footnotes and then our cross references says error reference not found
so we need to delete that
as well
so you may want to delete the cross references first but, it doesn't matter
you you will see the message they're if it doesn't have anyhting to
cross reference to
so now we want to make our
footnotes
roman numerals instead of the
normal arabic numbers
to do that
we need to select the entire document i'm holding down control
and hitting a to select all
now i'm inserting
a new section
it's asking me what kind of section do you want? and we can even give this a name
I'll just leave this as section one
we want to change this to footnotes and endnotes
we want to collect at end of text we want to turn that on.
we can put on the restart numbering because that now makes our custom
formatting available
there's our
arabic numbers and we want to change this to roman numerals
We will say capital Roman numerals
inserting
and it looks like nothing's changed
the document looks call exactly the same
which it is
now i'm going to
insert my footnote just as I did earlier placing my
cursor right past
the text i want to insert
my footnote at
insert footnote endnote
automatic
footnote
okay
and there's my roman numeral
and if I change change this to
times new roman
it'll be a little more obvious that that's a roman numeral seen now we can
see the
the I looking like an I-beam
and there's our second footnote
and it doesn't really make a difference when we do our
custom
character
we're doing the same way inserting
the crossrefrence
footnotes tutorial reference insert
close
and if we want to
customized this we would change that to superscript
