You are a lawyer working for a large firm and you have decided that you want to start
your own law office. Hello I'm Robert Todd and I'm here to discuss starting a law office.
One of the first things you want to consider is what name will you be practicing under.
Are you going to be in your individual name? Is it going to be your individual name and
associates with you and another lawyer or a group of lawyers? So it is very important
to decide upon a name. Next it will be important to decide on the form of business you will
be engaging in the practice law whether it is the sole proprietorship, partnership, a
professional corporation or a professional limited liability company. You may want to
seek tax advice in terms of the best way for your particular circumstance and then you
want to choose the area in which you will be practicing law. You want to decide where
your physical office will be located and you are going to decide what physical needs you
are going to need in the way of office furniture equipment, and staff. These are just some
of the preliminary things that you should consider in starting an office. I'm Robert
Todd and thank you for watching.
