Asphalt 8: AirBorne is a fun and action packed arcade racer that's filled with content! There
are tons of licensed cars, tracks and game modes. Career mode spans across 8 seasons,
but races are repetitive and are based more on what car you have and less on skill. Tracks
have different paths and include ramps that allow you to preform aerial stunts. Multiplayer
is fair, however you are just thrown into a random race and are unable to create your
own room. You can play the game without spending any money on in-app purchases by replaying
events, however this most often stops you from enjoying the game. You can choose between
different rearrangeable control schemes, either with auto accelerate enabled or disabled and
there's also support for iOS game controllers. Asphalt 8 is a gorgeous for a free game with
lots of visual effects and detailed graphics. The game also features a licensed soundtrack,
as well as brilliant sound effects.
Plants vs Zombies 2: It's about time is a polished strategy game, that can truly be
played for free, without in-app purchases standing in the way of progression. The game's
main objective is to protect your brains from waves of ZOMBIES!!! by planting plants. There
are many plants and zombies in the game, with each having their advantages and disadvantages.
In order to plant plants you have to collect sun. Plant food gives a selected plant a super
boost. There are also 3 power-ups and all of them are unnecessary and feel like cheats.
Almost every level brings something new to the table and right strategy is essential
for completing them. The game takes place in multiple time periods, with each of them
having a unique twist on zombie types, gameplay and art. For example in the wild west you
can place plants on rails and move them around the battlefield, in the wild seas zombies
will swing on ropes and you can fling them off into sea, etc. The unique art style is
excellent, as is animation in general. There are a few plants and perks that can only be
obtained by spending real money, however with tons of free content Plants vs. Zombies 2
is still more than worth downloading.
dEXTRIS is a fast paced endless runner where you control 2 neon squares. Controls are spot
on. In order to keep things going you'll have to avoid obstacles, that are easily distinguishable
from the neon squares. Hitting any obstacle will instantly end the game. To keep things
exciting, the game speeds up every 10 points. The game is simple, but it usually doesn't
manage to hold the players attention for any longer than 10 minutes.
Smash Hit is also an endless runner where you throw marbles at glass structures. You
have a limited number of marbles, that can be increased by hitting crystals. If you hit
them 10 times in a row, you'll gain the ability to throw multiple marbles at once, however
missing a crystal or colliding with any object will end it. It important not to collide with
an obstacle as that will cost you 10 marbles. There are three limited time power-ups that
can give you an unlimited number of marbles, slow down time and allow marbles to deal more
damage. Each checkpoint introduces you to a new world that changes the gameplay slightly.
There is an in-app purchase that lets you restart from checkpoints after you die and
it also enables cloud syncing. The game features excellent sound effects and background music
that help to create the game's relaxing atmosphere.
Ads appear in all of these games, with the exception of Smash Hit. Also all games I showed
you have Game Center leaderboards and achievements, except for dEXTRIS, which only has leaderboards.
