Governor George Pardee's father Enoch Pardee came west during the gold rush and built this
home in the eighteen sixties. George was a boy here and later George came back with his
wife Mary and four daughters to live here and then they were in Sacramento when he was
Governor. After he was done being Governor the family came back to the home and later
George Pardee was one of the founders of the East Bay Municipal Utility district which
is Oakland's and Berkeley's water district. He was always, he and his father Enoch both
were always interested in pure water as behind me is the family's tank house. There is a
well that is still produces water for the grounds and is another one of those remnants
from historic Oakland that you can visit when you come on a tour.
