Dante: Well, we agreed a long time ago
That you'd make all the decisions about the baby, so...
I would never say anything unless you do.
Brenda: Well, you know, I've decided to leave it in the past like you suggested.
Dante: Okay, that's good.
Brenda: You know, Sonny and I have been through so much.
And I just, I don't want to dwell on a part of my life that's over
So I'm just... trying to move on.
Dante: I guess that's what we're all just trying to do.
See ya.
Terrell: I was looking over the proposed budget cuts for the AIDS wing.
The public awareness program is the first thing on the list to go.
Robin: I know, the director thinks that the money is better spent treating patients
rather than preventing illness.
It is really frustrating.
I mean, I know that the cuts have to come from somewhere
But how are we supposed to prevent an epidemic without education?
Terrell: Well, you know what? I got some ideas for a fundraiser.
Maybe we can generate enough to keep the--
[Phone beeping]
They need me in the E.R.
Are you free tonight? Maybe we can talk about it over drinks.
Matt: Okay, I have got a sweet spinal procedure that Schroeder
Is foaming at the mouth for.
However, me being the good brother that I am--
Patrick: The guy's barely been here a week and everybody thinks he walks on water.
Matt: Schroeder?
Patrick: No. Dr. Jackson. You mind telling me what's so great about
the guy, 'cause I can't see it.
Matt: Uh, yeah, easy. The guy works in peds.
Patrick: Peds? Really? So what?
Matt: Women have a soft spot for any man who can save sick kids.
Trumps being a badass brain surgeon any day of the week.
And if you don't believe me, ask any of these nurses
Because they are all lining up to take a shot at the prize.
Patrick: Oh go ahead, line up. I'm a better doctor in the first place.
Matt: I didn't realize that this was a competition. So, uh, what's the prize?
Or should I say 'who'?
Robin: Is the Wilkins chart there?
Patrick: Wilkins? That's it right there.
Robin: Thank you.
Patrick: Everything all right?
Robin: Yeah, everything's great.
The whole AIDS wing problem has been solved.
Terrell decided to step in, volunteer. I don't know how I'm ever gonna thank him.
Claire: Hi.
Sonny: Hi. Thanks for coming by.
Claire: Sure. Did you have a problem with the paperwork I dropped off?
Sonny: No, I signed the papers, sent them back to your office.
Claire: Okay. So why'd you want to see me?
Sonny: I was wondering if you could help me with a legal problem.
Claire: Um... unless this has something to do with parking permits
For your delivery trucks
I don't think Diane would be comfortable
With you coming to me over her regarding legal advice.
And given the fact that my career options are limited right now
I can't afford to *** off a partner in the best firm in town.
Sonny: I already ran it by Diane.
Claire: Okay. I'm listening.
Sonny: Would you consider defending Brenda and Dante?
Claire: Me?
Sonny: The wrongful death suit is not going away, and they need the best.
Claire: You've got Theo Hoffman.
He's one of the highest-paid attorneys on the East Coast.
And that's for good reason. He doesn't lose.
Sonny: No, I get it. It's complicated. He wants to bring you in as co-counsel.
I said to him that I would ask you.
Claire: Because of our history.
Sonny: I know how good you are. Theo knows how good you are.
That's why he needs you on the case.
Can you help?
Dante and Brenda, they really are in serious trouble.
Dante: Hey. You look about as good as I feel.
Siobhan?
You want to talk about it?
Lucky: Nah. Not really.
Dante: Hey, can I get a beer? Actually, uh, whiskey. Shot. Please.
Lucky: So what's, uh, going on with you?
Dante: Lulu found out that Brenda killed Aleksander and that I covered it up.
Lucky: What do you mean, she found out? I thought we were gonna keep this a secret.
Dante: Yeah, I mean, our, uh--
Our amazing defense attorney, Theo Hoffman, stopped by to talk about the lawsuit.
And he assumed that she knew because
We were so concerned about Brenda taking the stand.
Lucky: Well, you know, Lulu's not gonna say anything
If that's what you're worried about.
Dante: She's done. She broke up with me.
Lucky: What?
Dante: Too many lies.
Lucky: Wow, man, I'm sorry.
You know, um, if you want me to talk to her.
Dante: No, no, this is-- this is my mess.
I just gotta fix it and I just gotta figure out how.
Maxie: What is it that Dante cares about more than anything?
Besides his mother, I mean.
Being a cop and protecting people. I'm sure Brenda played on that.
Lulu: Dante risked his badge for Brenda.
So apparently she means more to him than his career.
Obviously more than me.
Maxie: He loves you.
Lulu: Not enough to be honest with me.
Maxie: What is it that you are not getting about this?
Dante has a hero complex. All cops do. I was raised by one.
That whole serve and protect thing, it's not just a job, it's who they are.
I'm sure Brenda saw that and just swooped in
Made Dante think he was the only person that could protect her.
So of course, he did whatever he could to live up to that.
Even if it included lying to you.
[Footsteps approaching]
Brenda: Hey. Hi. Do you, uh, do you have a minute?
Maxie: Actually, Lulu was just about to leave.
She has a photo shoot to prep for with Giselle. You know, a real supermodel?
Brenda: Uh yeah. Yes. Of course. This will just take a minute.
Lulu: We can talk in Kate's office.
Brenda: I heard about you and Dante.
Lulu: Yeah well, I can't control what Dante tells you
But I'm not gonna discuss my personal life with you.
Brenda: Absolutely. I just came to apologize, um, because
It's completely my fault. So, um. Look, Dante loves you.
He would never do anything to hurt you. The thought of losing you is killing him.
So, I just hope that you don't punish him for protecting me.
Brenda: I can see that you're angry. I--I, uh--
Lulu: You don't-- You don't know how I feel, so don't stand here
And pretend like you do.
Brenda: I just want to explain to you why Dante lied.
Lulu: You don't need to explain Dante to me.
What happened between us is our business, not yours.
Brenda: I just hope you didn't break up with him because of me.
Lulu: Oh, my God, Brenda. If you're feeling guilty
Maybe it's because you played on his need to protect people
And you put him in a position where he could have lost everything.
Brenda: Yeah, you're absolutely right. You are, and that's why I'm here.
Um, I just-- I want to know if there's anything I can do to make this right.
Lulu: Is this a joke right now? I can't believe it.
Sonny proposes to you.
He's buying you a house.
He's gonna marry you.
And that's still not enough.
You still have to come first in Dante's life.
Before his job and before me.
You are so unbelievably needy.
I have better things to do right now than talk to you.
Brenda: You're right. I'm sorry.
Look, I just want you to know that if you let Dante go
It's gonna be a big mistake.
He's such a good man, and he loves you. That's all. Sorry.
Dante: So you're gonna just sit here and stalk Siobhan all night or what?
Lucky: Well how long's my break?
No, listen, she-- she's convinced herself that she's safe now.
That the Balkan's not going to come after her because we're not together.
That kind of thinking could get her killed.
I just want to make sure that she's safe.
Dante: Well, I know you want to keep her safe.
But sometimes it doesn't matter how much you try.
The people you care about? You can't prevent them from getting hurt.
Lucky: I don't understand why Lulu would break up with you.
I mean, all you were trying to do was protect her.
The Balkan is gonna come after anybody with information
And she's safer not knowing.
Dante: Well you can justify it in a million ways
But it doesn't change the fact that I lied to her.
And it wasn't the first time.
That's what she really cares about.
When Brenda came to town and she found out that I knew her from before
She asked me straight to my face
Did I have anything else I was keeping from her?
And I said no.
Come on, now's your chance to tell me to stay away from your sister.
Lucky: Why would I say that?
Dante: Well because why would you want her with a guy who's gonna lie to her face?
Lucky: That's not lying. That's protecting the woman you love.
Look, Lulu needs you now more than ever.
She's on the Balkan's radar.
And you know what she hasn't always made the best choices
When it comes to relationships, but it was different when she met you.
Dante: Oh, you mean Dominic? Yet another lie.
Lucky: You lied about your name. Not about who you were.
Dante: It doesn't matter.
She's always gonna wonder whether or not I'm being honest with her now.
Lucky: The Spencers are just suspicious by nature.
You know, our dad taught us to never take anything at face value
And I broke that rule with Elizabeth. And you know what? Lulu saw.
She saw what I went through. And I'm sure that she's
looking at you guys And she doesn't want to
go through the same thing. That's probably why she's pushing you away.
Because she doesn't want to get hurt.
Dante: Well, for good reason.
Lucky: We can't always protect the people we love, right?
But we also can't walk through our lives afraid to take chances.
So, look, man If you want to win Lulu back
Show her why you're worth the risk.
Terrell: Well, the, good news is
I don't see any indication of an ear infection.
Elizabeth: Really? Because he's been acting fussy lately
And Cameron at this age was having ear infections all the time.
And when Aiden was pulling at his ear I thought, here we go again.
Terrell: Well, it can be a warning sign, you know.
So keep an eye on him. If Aiden has any other symptoms
You just bring him right back on in, okay?
Nikolas: You said that was the good news.
Is there something else we should be concerned about?
Terrell: Yeah, well, Aiden is actually cutting a tooth.
And uh, it hurts, he's gonna let you know it.
I don't think you're gonna get much sleep until it comes in.
Elizabeth: Oh, I don't sleep anyway.
With three kids and a job I'm too busy to sleep.
Terrell: I know how you feel. You take care, little man.
Call me if you have any questions, okay?
Elizabeth: We will. Nikolas: Thank you.
Elizabeth: Sorry for making such a big deal out of a little tooth.
Nikolas: It is a big deal. It means our son is growing up.
Elizabeth: I know. He's changing every day. That's why I've been coming
around so much lately. I just don't want either one of you
to miss out on anything.
Nikolas: Elizabeth, you don't need a reason to come by.
I'm always happy to spend time with Aiden.
Elizabeth: I know he'd really love if you could tuck him in tonight.
What do you think? You think you'll be able to fall asleep if daddy's there?
Lisa: Terrell. Terrell.
Volunteering your time to keep the AIDS wing open's a nice touch.
Robin's practically pudding.
Terrell: I have my own reasons.
Lisa: Oh, yeah, yeah your friend who, uh, died of AIDS.
Terrell: His name's Ricky, Lisa.
Lisa: Okay well then fine.
You milk Ricky's death for all that it's worth
And then Robin will be yours for the taking.
There's nothing she loves more than a little empathy.
Terrell: Not too high on your list, though, is it?
[Lisa snorts]
Robin: Hey.
Terrell: So, you, uh, you finally find a sitter?
Robin: Yes, she just picked Emma up from day-care, so, uh, I'm all yours.
