So, I'm Abhay Chattopadhyay. I'm from India, from New Delhi. I practiced from 2010-2012
before I came to Penn for the LLM program. Essentially, I was involved with a lot of
litigation at the New Delhi high court and Supreme Court of India.
The summer program is an interesting introduction. Professor Ewald is a gem of a professor. It
is essentially an introduction into the U.S. legal system was so succinct, so clear, and
you felt like you learned something. You came away feeling that you were a little better
off for having done it and having attending classes and done the readings because he managed
to teach us a lot. This is information that takes years actually for people to become
proficient with. And he managed to make a lot of us proficient with a matter of a month.
I did take the Wharton certificate. The manner in which classes were organized, the structure
for the entire program was incredible. We were made to feel as if it was just an extension
of law school. Which it wasn't because the information we were being taught had nothing
to do with law school. Which is great because someone like myself who had no understanding
of management, of corporate finance, of accounting, which were the three subjects that I took,
I feel like I can have a conversation with people who are experts in the field and at
least hold my own. You have professors that invest in you. And you feel important, you
feel special. Regardless you might be one person in a hundred in ten, but if you want
to talk to them, they will take the time.
When they tell you that it is a law school and that you are part of a community and there
is a large community of Penn, which might be undergrad or might be grad, its a big family.
And there is a host of different things to do. You wont be bored at Penn, ever, at any
point or time while you are here. No matter how hot or cold it is. You will always have
something to do, you will somewhere to be. The city of Philadelphia will always be incredibly
special to me. It gave me a lot and I learned from it and I think I have become a better
person because of it.
