Almost as soon as he arrived, President Kendall established an advisory board with members from each county in the college service area.
He also began to personally tour the region to assess the needs of the people first hand.
I guess my point of view with respect to what education should do could be said something like this. Whatever people's needs are, education should be an instrument for improving that quality.
Try to meet that need with qualified teachers, with qualified things at the institution. This, I believe, is the real program of a state college;
and in Chico's case, it will be as practical as possible, highly theoretical in a way, but also with real ability to qualify to meet that standard.
This same thoughtfulness was shown to all new faculty members. Glenn and his wife, Susan, personally paid each new teacher a visit and came bearing welcoming gifts.
Dr. Kendall's background gave him a thorough appreciation of agriculture. He understood its importance to the region and the school. Perhaps one of his most treasured legacies is the university farm.
