Gabbar is an upcoming Hindi action drama film, directed by Krish and produced by Sanjay Leela
Bhansali and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. It features Akshay Kumar and Shruti Haasan
in the lead roles. Prakash Raj, Sonu Sood and Sunil Grover will play important supporting
roles. Kareena Kapoor Khan is expected to do a cameo
appearance in Gabbar. The soundtrack and film score are composed by Sajid-Wajid.
The film is expected to go on floor in early 2015 and will release worldwide on January
8 of the same year. It is an official remake of the 2002 critically
and commercially successful Tamil A. R. Murugadoss film Ramana,
starring Vijaykanth in the lead. The original was remade in Telugu as Tagore with Chiranjeevi
in the lead and then in Kannada as Vishnu Sena with Vishnuvardhan in the lead
role.
Gabbar Singh Rajput (Akshay Kumar) creates his own vigilante military network called
the Anti-Corruption Force (ACF) that eliminates the most corrupt individuals,
from all walks of life, in a systematic manner. As pressure builds on Police
and Government to track down the man who masterminds these killings, Balbir Singh (Sonu Sood) is
specially summoned to head the task. He is aided by Suryam (Prakash Raj) who, though
being just a constable in the mammoth Police force, is compelled by
his instincts to see through the underlying design.
Akshay Kumar plays the male lead. Actresses Katrina Kaif, Ileana D'Cruz, Asin Thottumkal,
Shraddha Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Tamannaah Bhatia were reportedly
being considered for the female lead, though Shruti Hassan and Kareena Kapoor Khan was
later confirmed for the role. Sonu Sood will play the role of a cop while Prakash Raj will
be the antagonist. Shooting began on January 8, 2014. Akshay
Kumar will sport a different look, a beard and long hair for Gabbar.
He is believed to have given bulk dates for Gabbar so that film is completed for a Christmas
2014 release.
The film first offered to A. R. Murugadoss to be directed by.
Later it went to Krish. It will be the second time Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Akshay Kumar
team up after the success of Rowdy Rathore. Music of the film was composed by Sajid-Wajid
who previously compose for Rowdy Rathore, also their second time composing music
for a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie. Shruti has signed on the dotted line, says
producer Shabina Khan. She will start shooting with Akshay in January, 2014.
Mom Sarika more proactive after stalker incident: Sarika has started being more proactive as
far as her older daughter Shruti goes. A source says, "Since the stalker incident,
Shruti has not been answering phone calls unless it is from close family.
With Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer Ram Leela releasing this year, SLB will now
produce the remake of Tamil blockbuster Ramana (2002) with Akki as 'Gabbar'. The film, which
highlights the fight against corruption, will mark South director Krish's
(Gamyam, 2008, and Vedam, 2010) Bollywood debut. Confirming the news, Sanjay says, "We
will be remaking Ramana. It's a beautiful film and
I believe such cinema should reach our Hindi film-watching audience as well. We look to
do justice to the subject and treatment and are extremely
excited about the project." While the project was initially to be titled
Ramana, much like the original, creative maverick SLB,
known to be extremely particular about titles, suggested calling it Gabbar. Not too many
know that it was he who also suggested Rowdy Rathore as the title for his
record-breaking film. While the official rights have been acquired, the makers will soon
announce the leading lady. For now, however, they do share that it will be an unlikely
pairing and something the audiences are going to
be excited about. Says a source, "It's been a great year for Bhansali Productions — Ram
Leela is eagerly awaited. Bhansali Productions now
looks to taking its success benchmark several notches higher with Gabbar. The film which
will go on the floor this year, will be co-produced by his close friend Shabinaa Khan, who was
his partner in Rowdy Rathore."
Following a turbulent year for Bollywood star Akshay Kumar at the box office after the plight
of Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara and Boss,
it was being speculated that Viacom 18 was considering pulling out of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's
Gabbar starring Akshay. But if the latest development is to be believed,
the studio has returned in the project as co-producer, with the confidence that
this time round, Akshay will turn his luck around.
A source close to a leading daily was quoted saying, "Last year, the studio struck a big
deal with SLB Films for their upcoming movies. But after a while it decided to go slow on
the commitments and renegotiate on a few deals, following which there were multiple meetings
with Bhansali." But to Bhansali's delight, the renegotiation
bore fruit and everyone came out smiling. The source added, "The deal has been locked
at Rs 78 crore. Akshay was clear on the price and didn't want any
renegotiation arguing that certain films need a budget and ' Gabbar' is one of them. The
studio is happy with the final outcome." So now the film is continuing with its filming
which stars Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Shruti Haasan in leading roles.
Also, standup comedian Sunil Grover, known for playing Gutthi in hit TV show "Comedy
Nights with Kapil", will play a supporting role in film.
Contrary to the rumours that Sunil has a parallel lead along with Akshay Kumar, the debutante
director clarified that it is "an out-and-out Akshay film".
"Let me clarify that Sunil only has a supporting part, but it will be an important one though,"
Krish said in a statement. "The film is a mix of comedy and drama. It's
too early to reveal the intricacies of the character," he added.
Akshay Kumar's bearded look off late has caught everyone's attention - from B-Town to his
fans. Akki is sporting this look for Sanjay Leela
Bhansali's Gabbar. Latest picture from the sets of Gabbar shows
the actor wearing a black Nehru jacket over a plain white kurta and pyjama.
His look resembles a politician. In the film, Akshay plays head of an of an anti-corruption
body.
To be directed by Krish, Gabbar is an remake of Tamil film Ramana. The film also stars
Shruti Haasan, Prakash Raj and Sonu Sood in the lead roles.
It is also being said that Kareena Kapoor Khan will make a special appearance in the
movie for a dance number.
Bollywood’s ‘Khiladi’ Akshay Kumar has switched to work mood and started shooting
for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film Gabbar in Goa.
According to reports, Akshay Kumar has been holidaying with his family in the coastal
state since his actress wife Twinkle Khanna’s birthday on December 29.
Akshay Kumar Posted the picture (above) on Instagram saying: Starting the #NewYear, with
a New Movie, a New Look & by God’s Grace lots of Luck!!
1st shot for #GABBAR :) Wish me luck! Akshay needs all the luck he can have as 2013
did not turn out to be as fruitful as the actor had expected. Last year, two out of
his three films bombed at the Box Office. While
‘Special 26' did moderately well, ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara’ and ‘Boss’
were outright disasters.
Meanwhile, a pleasant surprise awaited Akshay on the sets of ‘Gabbar’, where actress
Karisma Kapoor turned up to wish him luck. Akshay posted the picture (above) on Instagram:
What a beautiful #BlastFromMyPast! My 1st Heroine came to wish me luck for my new film!
