Hi, Tom Choisnet, enrolled agent again. I just happened to come across something we
were making a discussion about on undocumented workers because many of you might be hiring
undocumented workers or you certainly know someone who knows someone nearby that's in
this situation. What the government has done is provide tax identification numbers separate
of social security numbers so the undocumented workers can report their income and be in
good standing with the Internal Revenue Service. An interesting part of that is those undocumented
workers who have children may not get the earned income credit on their T.I.N. income
and we see that from time to time with people who have children and work under assumed social
security numbers. This goes on and the government has come up with a way of handling it in an
ethical and reasonable way. Hope this has help shed a little light, and gee, are these
people paying taxes? Yes, they do and there's a good system in place to take care of that.
Thank you!
