the military-backed government of Egypt has passed a law that would effectively
outlaw all street protests and demonstrations
and her fam democracy you're probably not going to like this change to
egyptian law
specifically the new law effectively banned
any public gathering at more than 10 people without governmental approval
requires notification the authorities three days in advance if any protests
and it specifically bans all demonstrations at places of worship
won a very common sites where they would be held an additional also give security
agencies like the secret police the right to prohibit
any public gatherings demonstrations or meetings including political campaign
events by the way
if they're deemed a threat to the public order now what citizens have the right
to appeal to a core
there is no deadline for a ruling on those appeals
yeah I mean unfortunately shouldn't surprise us work the Muslim Brotherhood
was banned for thirty years under Mubarak
and
then they took over and then they lost power and now they're just going back to
the same thing
that they had it was particularly interesting about this is I love you
guys so this this week that passive yosef was the chipset
Jon Stewart you know he's been talking off the air under
under the military he was allowed at when was that just in the last like
month
he's been taken up there is now negotiating with the German channel to
get back on television
so in a way there actually were song not only then the Muslim Brotherhood that
they
revolted against but even bark who was running the show over 30 years there
wasn't doing much good
so there there's a bounce-back period here where they're going to lose right
because they were trying to get right and why does it seem like people are all
kinda volcano with that in Egypt overall
it it that which is surprising yeah well they've been wanna be secular and I
think they think the military's
%uh secular and they think and they felt that the Muslim Brotherhood was
right but you know there will be more right I I had not been
in Egypt for a number of years I'm such a great outlet
6 guess all nighters undergrad I'm time there's an issue that its
pre-revolutionary
so I don't I don't have any contacts age right now this is totally just
speculation by Najib's
it's partly the desire that you spoke out up to be secular ali also
a desire for stability the app and in like those crowds were out there for a
reason
they were they were back they were speaking what people were thinking
but after as the two governments being brought down by the very sort the
protest that are being banned here
I'm not saying it's right in fact I think it's very wrong but I can imagine
why some people on the ground might
be kind of protest weary when you're in Egypt did you C cleopatra
I just hope to
polled by Alexandra to see what did not fear I mean on the whole
I mean it's Bonnie here that they're banning protests now
when they were okay under Mubarak and the Muslim Brotherhood so
that that is they were okay they were I mean a good thing can kill budget people
exactly for for doing that being lied to benefited
I know I would I would you would think that a lot of people protesters
yeah right because I was like crap the logins protest thing they were protests
that
excited they're good at protesting in Egypt yeah I agree with you i think
there is a pretty good I think there's just if you've had
one revolution to get real one guy and then you cry did
democratically and then there was a coup even though we don't call it could get
really him
I think there's just like an element I'll just wanna live writer not
necessarily feel like we have to be in two years where every day
protest yep so I'll on the good side I guess above the law
II there are some protections for people so out when
the police are dispersing is public gatherings they're supposed to escalate
their use the Force
gradually something that they have not had a lot of success in over the past
two years
and so they begin with verbal warnings they followed up with non-lethal
measures like tear gas
clubs and ultimately birdshot which that sounds that sounds pretty deadly Mary
essentially
yeah on but only if the protesters continued to resist scan the police
escalate the use of force
but at that point out here the police are not trained in a fashion that when
confronted by hundreds of thousands of people they are able to
asleep the support gradually and that's why you have police shooting
protest cref a.m. even just I don't know how much I trust
the judgment officers PI can base their training budget also in general they
could play anything
they could categorize behavior in any way they so choose South I don't feel
like talking that
I I think it's kinda party that there's over it with the group
that was started the protest against Mubarak to get this whole thing going
they have
they were first to it apply for a permit to protest this new law
yeah I haven't heard at they're big yeah
