I was showing in a stage. And it was really fun.
You were on stage?
Doing, kind of like, this Thai tradition.
How long did it take you to learn that tradition?
About, like, 2 months.
2 months? Do you get to perform at other Festivals, or just this one?
I have performed at other Festivals too.
What has been your favorite part of today?
Of course – eating!
And what do you like to eat?
Rice. And Mangos.
Oh, you like the sweets!?
Yeah.
Did you get to see the parade? What else have you done today?
I’ve done… I was in the parade. And a lot of people were in it.
So are you going to come back next year?
I guess so.
You guess so?
Aside from the Muay Thai ring and the Thai New Year Pageant stages,
there are two other stages dedicated to performances.
Whether it be singing, dancing or playing instruments.
The Songkran Festival has it all!
The performance stages are all dispersed all along
Hollywood Boulevad which explains why the entire street
is filled with so much lively music and fun. The stages
feature performances ranging from Thai classical music and
Thai dancing, to jazz bands and American singing groups
from LA and Thailand alike. Local artists, students, community members and
even Thai celebrities make their way to showcase their talent right here in Thai Town.
What have you guys done today?
We had to sow flowers.
Sow flowers? How long does that take?
A long time.
Have you had a lot of fun today?
Yes.
Would you come back next year?
Yeah.
Did you guys get to see the parade?
No.
A little bit of it.
Did you get to see the pageant? All the girls all dressed up pretty?
Yeah.
Is that something you maybe wanna do? Be Miss Thai New Year?
Yeah.
How about you. Are you enjoying that food?
So for those of you who enjoy music and dancing make sure sure to stop by one of the
performance stage. And don’t forget to take a picture of a Thai celeb if you run into one.
Hi, this is Charles from Signha Beer.
This is our 9th Annual Songkran Festival here
in Thai Town, Los Angeles, California.
It was a very wonderful Festival. Uh, slightly windy.
But nonetheless very successful event and by far has grown
significantly from the years past. And this year has been a really great event.
Everyone seems to enjoy themselves and everyone in the Festivities,
bringing all the culture to sound of the Thai people together
as well as international guest from all over the country, as well as from Thailand.
I would like to wish everyone a Sawasdee Bee Mai.
Happy New Years and I’ll see you next year. Thank you.
Sadly, our day has finally come to an end.
We had a packed schedule today, visiting and enjoying some
great Thai cultural shows, Miss Thai New Year USA, enjoyed
some great food booths and Muay Thai. I hope you have
enjoyed our 9th Annual Thai New Year Songkran Festival. If you did not have
a chance to join us this year, please make sure to mark the 1st Sunday of April next
year for a day filled with fun. I hope you have a great, and happy and healthy
Thai New Year. Sawasdee Kha.
