Dave: Dave Gardy at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Brickyard for the Clean Cities
Stakeholder's Summit. I'm with Jenna Higgins Rose who is senior communications advisor to
the National Biodiesel Board. Jenna thank you so much for coming over and talking to us.
Jenna: Thank you for having me. Dave: Give us an overview of what the National
Biodiesel Board is first of all. Jenna: The National Biodiesel Board is a non-profit
trade association representing the biodiesel industry in the United States. We are all
about removing barriers to widespread biodiesel usage. One of the most important things
we do is educate the public on the benefits of biodiesel -- fleet managers, consumers,
petroleum distributors -- about how to properly use and handle biodiesel to take advantage of
its many benefits. Dave: Excellent, now how long have you had a relationship with Clean
Cities and tell us a little bit more about that. Jenna: Well we've been involved with
Clean Cities pretty much since the beginning and we place a very high value on our
partnership with the Clean Cities program. Because what we found is that there's this
wonderful multiplier effect with everything we do when we work with the Clean Cities
coordinators. They are able to reach out to so many more people and fleet managers and
get accurate information into the hands of people who live in their communities than we
would ever be able to do alone so it's been a very successful partnership and we are really
so grateful to everything the Clean Cities coordinators do. They not only share accurate
information but they really instill a sense of enthusiasm for the product and that has
just helped tremendously with acceptance. Dave: Excellent, now when you deal with the
community and try to sell them on bio diesel, what are some of the challenges you have to
overcome to get the message across? Jenna: Well we are finding that one of our biggest
hurdles still remains just basic education on what biodiesel is so that's something we've
had to backup a little bit and really start educating people about biodiesel being a
cleaner burning renewable fuel that's a drop in replacement for diesel fuel. That it can
be used in any diesel engine and of course proper handling and ensuring that you're using
a quality product is something that goes very closely with that so those are some of the
things we work on the most. Dave: Well you're doing a great job because it seems to be
getting more and more acceptance. Congratulations Jenna Higgins Rose who of course works
with the National Biodiesel Board she's a senior consultant. I'm Dave Gardy here at the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway and stay tuned for more from the Clean Cities Stakeholder's
Summit.
