In humanitarian news, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) begins a fundraising project
to assist Peruvian youth. The “Buena Onda” or “Good Mood” initiative was started
to gather contributions for disadvantaged rural youngsters in remote areas. Mr. Paul
Martin, UNICEF representative in Peru, stated, “The programs we have, such as this campaign,
aim to improve living conditions of 4.5 million children under 17, namely nutrition, health,
education and protection of rights.” At least US$545,000 is expected to be collected
in what is the fourth consecutive year of this annual drive. Emphasis for 2011 will
be placed on increasing neonatal survival rates, distributing multi-nutrients to reduce
anemia, and safeguarding children.
Our heartfelt appreciation, United Nations Children’s Fund, for your continuing devotion
to the well-being of all young people. May Heaven bless the youth of Peru with excellent
health and loving communities.
