Hello, dear viewers My name is Martin
And I am Adeele
Let's begin the very first Tudeng.TV newscast
In today's news
A conference "Creativity in Front of and Behind the Screen"
was held in Tallinn University on October 31
The chamber choir of Tallinn University
won two gold diplomas in Italy
The hobbyists of the Spanish language
met in the language café
One of the lecturers of TLÜ ÖÖ, the docent of publicity Linnar Priimägi,
paid a visit to our studio
Janet Õunapuu delivers the most exciting tracks of the fire drill
Experiment
where can you get the best coffee?
In sports news we talk about volleyball
And now in more detail
A media conference "Creativity in Front of and Behind the Screen"
took place on October 31
The co-organised conference of Tallinn University
and Estonian Public Broadcasting
discussed, which are the opportunities
to develop and utilise creativity in media
The focus was on television
The beat reporter of Tudeng.TV was Kätlin Hallik
How to attract to TV a younger audience
who maybe do not spend as much time watching it any more?
I think that this whole talk about television and young people
could be disregarded with ease
The ways to attract a young person to sit in front of the TV
has been discussed at conferences all over Europe for a decade
So far they have not been successful
I think that based on this knowledge it can be said
that a young person cannot be forced to do something that he does not want to do
or what he does not need to do
He sits in front of his computer, uses his phone or tablet
let's create content for that
Maybe this is the only way to bring the public messages to the youth
This is one side of the story
The other side is, life has proven
that when one grows older, one starts to watch TV,
regardless of the habits that have been evolved in one's youth
The television and digital culture lector James Bennett
from University of London talks about his habits for media consumption
I probably use my phone the most,
and I use that as both a communications tool, in terms of both email and twitter
I use it as a device to entertain my son I use it as a work device
And it kind of merges all those different identities that I have
as a parent, as a worker, as a person who's seeking entertainment,
as a person who is seeking more information
BFM television lecturer and the head of the department of media Hagi Šein
talked in his presentation how to involve movies and videos in academic work
One scholar has integrated these different approaches to Vanapagan
and his whole existential pain and different artistic solutions
into one lecture summary
Besides that, Šein talked about different movie-related worksheets
that could be used in language classes or other lectures
Actually we are approaching a new, very specific and perspective field
that could be called "pedagogy of the screen"
I believe that TLU will contribute to the development of this field immensely
Erki Moora and Tõnis Leht from Catapult Films talked about possibilities
for innovation in TV landscape based on the Tujurikkuja example.
This breakthrough will be born as a result of great enthusiasm
and a collective voluntary effort
Today's students have better opportunities
Thus, continue to regularly do the giant-Ansips and at one point it will happen.
Let's continue with music The chamber choir of Tallinn University
won two gold diplomas on the 10th international choir contest
"In... Canto Sul Garda" in Italy
The first place came with strong competition, 36 choirs competed in the contest
10th international choir festival Incanto sul Garda
took place in Italy from 10th to 13th of October
Among the 12 competing countries was the Estonian representative RY's chamber choir
Two golden diplomas were brought home from the competition,
in the categories of folklore and religious music
Conductor, Merike Aarma thought highly of other contestants
There were magnificent high-class choirs from Norway,
a really good-sounding really big mixed chorus with hundred members from Slovenia
Czech girls who performed in several categories and sang wonderfully and beautifully
Our chamber choir already has several successful performances behind them this year
Every competition means a great deal of pressure
for the vocalists, rehearsals, camps training
It's not just about going on a few rehearsals a week,
it also includes Sundays, Saturdays and also individual work with a vocal pedagogue
It has been a great load of work
Chamber choir's elder Jürgen says that one of the reasons
for their success is the fact that they are very close
On the 29th of October another language café was held
The reporters of Tudeng.TV were on the spot to figure out
what this event offers to language enthusiasts
Language Cafe is held by the International Club
We will find out more about the management and the goals of the event
It was started last spring and is held for the second time this year
The idea most likely started so that people could learn languages better
It's not so much about teaching the language, but about offering a way to practice it
All you have to do is find our Facebook group, Language@Oaas, which, at the moment is free
and then you just have to wait, until someone confirms your membership
and then you must wait to find out when the next events take place
The guest will give a brief overview about how things are done this week
Hello, my name is Ana and I'm from Spain
I'm gonna talk about myself again, about my country, the culture of my country,
how are the studies there, how are thing going there.
Then we're gonna make some games, to learn the numbers, colors,
we're gonna make a bingo with some basic words
Next time we're going to do French, if I remember right
We have 3 times left altogether, French, Italian and then Estonian as well for the final time
On the 7th of October TLÜ ÖÖ invites all students to night lectures and a party
The main topic of this year's TLÜ ÖÖ is "There are things roaming around in the night"
We have invited the docent of publicity of Tallinn University Linnar Priimägi
to the studio, his lecture topic this year is "Night Life"
Welcome to the show
Whose nightlife are you going to examine?
I would hate to make it personal, but I'd say yours
What do you imagine my nightlife to be like then?
If I say you, I do not mean you personally, I mean the people around your age in general
What is the most peculiar case that has happened to you at night?
The most peculiar thing about night
is that it ends
So, you are sorry?
See, it's like the song by Jaak Joala: it's sad, but our night must end. Summer night, yes?
What are your expectations for TLÜ ÖÖ?
Listen, I am going there only to give a lecture I was invited and my humble task
is to speak about culture semiotics and the peculiarities of nocturnal behavior
I saw that A. Durovski will be speaking about the way animals behave
Nocturnal animals are predators - they come at night to hunt their prey
In a way, we are all like animals, only our night is not the night of the animals
The night of the animals takes place in nature
our night takes place in culture and civilization
Is there anything in particular you would like to teach your students?
Every teacher's absolutely absurd, but absolutely understandable mission is
to mold each student into a version of the teacher himself
But you are well aware that a student is a tough raw material
and no one will be like you That would be rather silly as well
Thank you for coming here, Good-bye
On wednesday, October 30, a fire drill was organised in
Mare and Nova buildings in Tallinn University
Tudeng.TV was on the spot to see how the drill took place
and what is worth learning
What is happening right now?
An exciting moment in our lives that's gonna change it forever
Now we know how to evacuate the BFM in the case of fire
Are you surprised?
Surprised?
No
I am actually from EKA, I had lessons on the fourth floor
I was lugged down and now I have no idea what is going on
Do you think the fire drill is useful?
I don't know, right now I did not learn much
I think it is a nice change I would have carried it out in winter
right now it is too warm for people
But the fire can break out at any time?
That is true
Where were you when the fire drill started?
Oh, is this a fire drill?
I thought that as usual, there was an error in the equipment and it started to make noise
I was right here when the fire drill started
We were here, on this very spot
Actually, behind this glass when the bells started ringing
We had just been previously warned and to be completely honest
we decided to come outside in advance
Do you think the fire drill is necessary?
Definitely. I think that the risky part is that the alarms go off all the time,
for no reason and when a real fire breaks out,
no one bothers to move himself
Therefore it is useful to know what to do in case of a real fire
The fire drill should be organized in a way that they are actually useful
If I have not yet reached my class, I am just waiting outside
then it is no use, I do not learn to evacuate
Maybe now I will, I don't know
Where were you when the fire drill started?
In my office
And what did you think, did you know that this event was going to take place?
Yes, I am the person in charge of this floor and I was to make sure
that all people are safely out of the rooms
Do you think that the fire drill was useful today?
I think that it definitely was When real danger emerges, I think
that people do not know what to do and tend to panic
Now everyone has gone through with it at least once
Mostly I think it is useful not for students, but the people who are in charge
The security, people like me -- floor managers, we have to know what we need to do
how to react when this danger becomes reality
The fire drill went comparatively well
Only one student went through a corridor that was filled with smoke
Others chose the secure and harmless evacuation path, and exited safely
For students, when the alarm goes off, they are required to leave the building immediately
The alarm is with programmed with a delay so that it could be checked first
Other people, security, administrators, have to start acting before
By the time the alarm goes off, the student has to know that he is to leave the building
Sleep is the biggest enemy of a diligent student
Where can one get the best coffee from the Tallinn University campus?
This was investigated by the experimental team of Tudeng.TV
Hi! I'm Johan and today we are going to have some coffee
We're going to test all four university cafeterias to see
where to get the best coffee with the best price
And because my opinion does not count, we have four experts here today
Neveli -- coffee drinker for 8 years
Raido -- coffee drinker for 15 years
Regina -- coffee drinker for 7 years
Martin -- does not drink coffee
You have a 15-year coffee-drinking experience How do you feel?
did you experience something new today or is it all just plain old black coffee?
I have always thought that machine coffee is terrible
That is why I never drink coffee without milk I used to drink it with ice cream
How often do you buy coffee from a school cafeteria?
Very often I love coffee!
Do you have a favourite cafeteria in our university, where you like to go the most?
No, I just go to the one, from which I get coffee the fastest.
You are the one who does not drink coffee at all, and still
you have managed to stay awake and not asleep. Tell us about it
I really don't drink coffee In my family it has never been tradition
We drink tea
And that concludes our this week's test
We discovered that the best coffee can be bought from Tudengikohvik at Terra building
Therefore, if you have an euro to spare when you come to school
there is no chance that you will fall asleep during your lecture
And now sports
The women's volleyball team of TLÜ got a taste of both sweet victory
as well as bitter defeat over the past few weaks
The students' volleyball championships were held last week
and Tallinn University became the student champion
by defeating TTU in an intense playoff with 2:1
Unfortunately, TLÜ did not reach any further from Estonian Cup quarterfinal
losing both games to TTÜ
In the Baltic League gained our women's team one victory and one defeat
In the quarterfinals of Estonian Cup
the Tallinn University women's team lost to TTÜ with a score of 0:3
In this game, part of the Baltic League,
TLU played against the Riga Stradina University and lost 2:3
with a score 16:18 in the decisive game
The loss was compensated the next day when another Latvian team MSG/Zeltaleja
was defeated with the score 3:1
This year the Estonian and Baltic Cup are joined together
Therefore, similarly to the men's Schenker League,
only the Baltic League tournament takes place
6 Estonian, 4 Latvian and 2 Lithuanian teams
participate in the woman's Baltic League this season
and TLÜ holds the 6th place with 4 points
The leader Kohila has played one game more than TLÜ and has accumulated 8 points
The goal would be to reach the play-offs, which is the 8 strongest teams,
ranking as high as possible so as not to go straight against the top team
This game and the test games have shown that it is possible to play against all teams
Also the scoring system, in which a 3:2 defeat gives also one point,
allows us to aim higher Gradually, one game at a time
The Estonian Championship is held in spring, and I cannot predict anything about that
We'll have to see about the level of the teams, because many players have changed clubs
and the exact power relation is still unknown
The next TLÜ women's game, again part of the Baltic League,
takes place at Lilleküla Gümnaasium on November 16, at 12 pm
and is played against the Lithuanians
A day later at 3 pm, a game is held at TLU against another Lithuanian club
All fans are welcome to cheer for our team!
Be there
That is all for today Until next week!
Good-bye
