What do you think of Amana vs York furnaces?
Amana may make great silverware, but their appliances from refrigerators to air conditioners
to ovens to furnaces are lousy.
I thought they made decent appliances.
So did Whirlpool in the 1950s, but now their freezers tend to melt and flood. Some of the
Frigidaire fridges even manage to catch fire.
Speaking of heat, what is your opinion of Amana furnaces?
They have mediocre furnaces whose efficiency is only about 95% because it doesn't work
all the time. Most units have the minimum 80% efficiency required by the EPA these days.
They advertise their compatibility with Goodman's ComfortNet environmental control system.
I would not consider that a selling point. Goodman's no good.
They have silicon nitride igniters that are safer than traditional igniters.
And their igniters frequently go out. Then again, so do the control boards and motors.
Motors go out on everything, even cars.
Yes, but if my car motor goes out, I can call a taxi or tow truck. Furnace goes out, the
whole family gives me a literal cold shoulder.
What do you think of York furnaces, then?
York is a better manufacturer, that's for sure.
So you recommend York.
I'd need to know if York serviced your area, first. If there is no York approved repair
person, you can't get the unit serviced under the warranty.
I'd hope the warranty is not necessary.
You're spending several thousand dollars on a furnace, plus another thousand for installation.
Spending some extra time to make sure there is a York dealer and servicer in your area
is worth the hassle.
York is a national brand.
National brand recognition, yes, national service, no. But if York is in your area,
get that in a heart beat over Amana.
So York it is, assuming I can get it.
