So if you've been working along with me, you know that I have several files open, a total
of four of them as it turns out. There's this one that we're seeing right here,
that I just saved as My modifications. If I press Control+Tab or Command+Tilde on
the Mac I'll switch to another of my open documents. This is that crystal.ai file, that
really cool marbles inside of a glass file I just love this thing, that ships along with
Illustrator actually, it's inside of a subfolder that's inside the
Cool Extras folder. Then we've got this template that I opened a long time ago, this sort of
CD cover template with these awesome songs like Justo, Congue Ques. Ha ha. I love
that one. And then finally I have this blank new document.
So I want to close them. I could go up to the File menu and choose the Close command
over and over again four times in all which would be a major pain in the keister,
or I could take advantage of this cool technique. There's two of them I want to tell you about.
One is press and hold the Alt key or the Option key on the Mac and choose the
Close command. That'll do it. I'm not going to do that though, because I
want to show you the other one because once I do it it's going to be done, right?
So that's Alt or Option choose the Close command. Here's the other one, press Control+Alt+W
or Command+Option+W on the Mac. Now, you should at some point, if you've been
working along with me you have open files that have unsaved changes, you'll get
this dialog box saying, Hey wait a sec. Do you want to save your changes before you close
this document? If you do, this is for my artwork by the way, which is the blank
document. If you do click on the Yes button on the Windows or the Save button on
the Mac. If you don't then click on the No button on the Windows or the Don't button
on the Mac. And if you want to cancel the whole thing
and kind of like take your bearings and figure out if you really want to do this,
then click on the Cancel button. You've got keyboard shortcuts as well. On the PC you've
got y for yes. Also you could press the Enter key. You've got N for No and Escape
for Cancel. On the Macintosh side you can press the Enter key for the Save button
or you can press the S key. For don't save you've got the D key and as in don't save
of course, and then you've got Escape for cancel. I'm going to say No or Don't Save,
because I don't care about saving this and watch this in a moment all of my
documents are going to close and I, in my case, because I turned off the Don't show
again checkbox here in the unwelcome screen, it's back and it's saying, Hey how are you
doing? I'd like to shake your hand. What would you like to do today? Ha ha. Oh gee.
Isn't that nice. All right, that's it for this chapter. You get a sense, you have a
sense now of what Illustrator is capable of doing, how to create a new document, how to
save the document, how a close your files, how to use the Bridge.
In the next exercise I'm going to show you how to set up Illustrator for the best results.
I'm going to show you how to navigate inside of your illustrations and
I'm going to tour you through the wide world of color settings. Check it out.
