Hi there, it's Jamie Barnett again with another Movie Line
Monday, and today's Movie Line is
"A nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat",
and that's from the "Nudge Nudge"
skit in Monty Python's Flying Circus.
And the idea is really about visibility
and noticing new apps in your environment, new cloud apps.
We are looking at cloud apps coming into the NetScope cloud
all the time and we're recognizing trends,
and one of the things that I wanted to just jump in
and do a Movie Line about is some of the apps
that we're seeing lately and what do they mean.
So let's just run through a couple categories.
I'll talk you through three categories.
The first one is software development.
Now software development is something we ordinarily
wouldn't expect to see in the cloud,
but we're starting to see apps and we
have ones that we know and recognize
like Atlassian, Confluence, and JIRA.
But what about things like Get Hub,
or perhaps even less well-know or less
talked about Stack Overflow?
So these are apps that we see very often in our cloud.
And they're interesting because they're
about exchanging ideas, exchanging code, and exchanging
best practices for developers.
And one of the things about them is
that there is the concept of sharing, sharing
your information, sharing your code.
And so that's very important to understand
about when you're thinking about protecting your IP
or even protecting your practices
within your engineering group.
So important to understand.
The second one is HR.
We've all heard about Workday and obviously a very popular
app.
SuccessFactors is another one.
These are really the pioneers of moving to the cloud.
Another app that we see all the time is Cornerstone OnDemand.
And this is one that I certainly hadn't heard about
before coming to NetScope, but certainly we
see in many, many of our customers.
And it's interesting app because they do so much.
So there's compensation information uploaded
to Cornerstone OnDemand, there's performance information,
all sorts of potential personally identifiable
information.
So that's a very interesting app to understand,
as well as many others like it, where that type of information
is being uploaded.
Very important to get your arms around what's
going on in those apps.
And then, finally, finance and accounting.
So we hear about things like Concur, for example,
is a well-known expense app.
But what about Expensify, something
that's really coming onto the scene
and that we're seeing in a lot of our accounts?
What about even Square, so folks who
are starting to do credit card transactions?
And then finally Paypal, which we're seeing increasingly
in even enterprises.
So these are important apps to get your arms around,
again, for compliance reasons as well as for data loss
and data leakage.
I just wanted to make you aware it's not just the big apps
that we hear about all the time, but it's the other apps
as well.
And just wanted to share that with you for this Movie
Line Monday.
