[Music] >>We’ve restored certain sites along the
American River to try to increase salmon spawning by adding gravel. This site was actually restored
in the year 2012. And so you can see here in 2011 the boundary lines and you can see
where some of the salmon were going there and there were a few in the area. And then
they put in the gravel in 2012 and so this shows the salmon and all the nests in the
red after the gravel’s been put in and you can see the increase in salmon spawning.
>>This is the sixth year we’ve had this event. The students where are here spent the
last summer and academic year doing research. We have 40 posters displayed illustrating
the research students did in collaboration with faculty members.
>>Diomoic acid is a neurotoxin that causes brain damage for the marine animals. This
is our result.
>>Some of the research we’ve done is to design and optimize the linear reluctance
accelerator.
>>They are using electrometric launch devices such as rail guns right now to launch aircraft
off of ships.
>>The Naval Postgraduate School came to us and said they really liked the work that we
were doing and they wanted us to continue the work that we were doing.
>>Our faculty are outstanding mentors. They love working with students. This is how they
do research in collaboration with students, both undergraduate and graduate students.
They are excellent mentors to the student and you can tell by the quality of the work
they have presented and the quality of the research. And how well prepared they are to
explain what they are doing.
>>The influence of Cholate on Apolipoprotein. It causes blockage in our arteries and causes
heart disease and also it’s been linked to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases
which is also related to plaque and fibril formation.
>>We went up to the Klamath Mountains to a site called Twin Lakes and we took a sediment
core from the upper Twin Lakes. It was 62 centimeter’s long so that goes back about
1,000 years in time. It’s showing right here that the organic content has increased.
So that means there has been a warming in the area.
>>My research was to examine a Pyroclastic Flow deposit at Mount St. Helen’s which
is in Washington. So I repelled down to the bottom and then used ascending devices to
go back up. And this is actually a picture of me hanging there. I used a boson’s the
dome of steam is growing there, and has been since the 1980 eruption.
