I believe that spirituality and faith is an important part of a person's well-being
as an individual, as well as from a community sense.
During the past five years of overseeing the development of a truly holistic
pastoral care strategy based on religious individuality and cultural diversity.
Our strong relationship with the Student Transition Retention Team, and increased
involvements in orientation seminars and events,
has seen the awareness of the multi-faith services jump from 10 to 40 percent
amongst new students.
We also have close ties with religious clubs registered with the Student Guild.
The size of our visiting chaplaincy team has doubled, with around 750
students and staff representing all the world's major religions
now receiving on-campus pastoral support every week.
Our web presence has expanded providing comprehensive information and access to
a chaplaincy team member,
even when access is needed after regular office hours.
As the Multi-faith Officer, I play a key role in managing critical incidences, be it
facilitating memorial services around national tragedies such as earthquakes, or
dealing with personal grief.
Together, we have achieved a faith-based service that is more relevant and accessible to students.
In terms of retention and the student experience, we definitely
make a difference.
