The biggest and most important thing is the fact that it's free.
People tend to think that higher education is going to be expensive,
that it isn't for me, that you need a certain level of education
to even engage with higher education.
With the OpenLearn tasters you can go in there and have a go
and you might find perhaps it isn't for you
but you might find that this is a subject you're really interested in,
family history or something,
and you might say, 'I'm so interested in this
I want to take this further and I want to get a qualification'.
Looking at the learning and skills agenda,
it's all about learning.
And this is offering an opportunity for anybody, anywhere
who has access to a computer to be able to learn.
So in a broader perspective,
it's in line with everything the government's trying to do,
it links with our partner's missions.
I think it's about the changing environment
and it's about everybody...
I know my daughter is a whizz with a computer
and that generation that's growing up now,
they know all about computers,
they know all about podcasts and mobile phones
and so the next generation is going to be online.
And this is about the university saying we're experts in our field
with online distance learning.
