The ideal student coming out of school needs to have a well-rounded
ability to communicate from a technical
business and interpersonal perspective.
So, oftentimes business writing and communication can be overlooked
and in today's environment, it's a necessity.
Students need to be able to not only understand the technical piece of what they're doing,
but also the business and how to communicate
the technical piece to the business.
An employee that would be really ideal would be somebody that has a good programming
knowledge, a good technical knowledge,
as well as a good business knowledge,
and that person can go very far by learning both of those and applying the skills.
Somebody who is an analyst type of a person
that can solve problems and want to help our customers.
We look to hire quality people that will fit into our company.
We kind of look for
the soft skills first and then look into the technical skills.
What we're looking for specifically are students that can come in and
take an idea and run with it.
and so many areas of the business touch IT today.
The opportunities are immense,
but it takes a special individual to come in and see those opportunities and
really take advantage of them.
Our company has been pretty involved with Ashland University over the years.
We've used a number of your students for job opportunities.
The students we have employed from here have really been the cream of the crop.
They've out-shined a number of students we've hired from other places, other universities and colleges.
So, whatever the school's doing here, I think they're doing agree job with it.
If we can add to that in some aspect, that would be great.
We're really looking for someone who has a combination of
interpersonal skills, being able to work in team environment, who also enjoys
problem solving and has an aptitude for learning technology and
different types of technology. I would say ten years ago, most positions
that were hired for, the hiring decision was made primarily based on the alignment of
technical skills with what was needed for the position, and although that's
still important, it's much less of the focus. Now there's much more of a focus on the
interpersonal skills and how well you work with others and relate with others.
