It’s me. How are you?
This is unusual for me: it’s something I’ve not done before,
but there’s a first time for everything. I have a small request.
I’ll introduce you to an online friend, Colin from Canada. Hi, Colin.
Colin, you’re going to be busy on Valentine’s Day. What’s the deal?
I’m going to be getting rid of this hair I’ve been saving for 5 years or so,
and getting my head shaved clean.
Normally it’s in a pony-tail, over 22 inches (56cm) long,
but for your viewers I’m wearing it down.
And the beard’s going, too.
That seems extreme. Why are you doing this?
It’s to support the St Valentine’s Day Hair Massacure,
a fundraiser in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada,
on Saturday, February 14, St Valentine’s Day.
This for the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Canada,
where people like me get sponsors
who donate money to see us get our hair cut or shaved off.
The goal is to fund the granting of 2 wishes for children.
My aim is to help by sacrificing these fabulous locks.
The hair won’t be wasted: it’ll be used to make wigs for cancer patients.
Why is this important to you?
Make-A-Wish is always good to support, but this year it has special personal significance.
My niece Destiny is to become a Wish Child in February.
She was born with a rare heart condition,
and has been through more than most of us ever will be,
including several operations to improve her heart as she grows:
her first operation was when she was a few days old.
But this February she’ll get her wish and travel to Disneyworld
thanks to the great folk at Make-A-Wish.
I’d like to do what I can to help give back,
and raise as much money as I can so more kids can get their wishes granted.
If people want to support you, how can they do this?
There are three ways you can help.
You can help by sponsoring me directly in this fundraiser
by going to my personal Hair Massacure website, which is here.
You can donate to the Foundation at any time by going to these websites.
You can participate in any of the events that may be happening in your area.
See the appropriate websites for a list of events you can take part in.
Will you check back in and let us know how it went?
I’ll do what I can to get some video of the event
and update your viewers with how much money I was able to raise.
Excellent. Thank you, Colin, and good luck.
Cheers from Canada!
OK, so this is what I’m going to do:
For every view this video gets between now and 12 February,
I’ll be donating one eurocent.
That’s one cent for each view.
I say 12 Feb., because I need to get the money to Colin in time for the event.
I’ll also have an upper limit of 5,000 views, that’s €50,
to protect me from bankruptcy if something weird happens.
I have my own bills to pay.
Don’t cheat by constantly refreshing the page
or using an auto-refresh bot to inflate the views.
I want you to get people watching it for real,
because it’s part of publicising the event.
Feature it on your channels, put it in your Favourites,
e-mail your friends and tell them about this,
embed this video in blogs, forums and websites.
Don’t download it and upload it yourself,
embed it so the views will registers.
Get people to watch this video and make me poor.
Even if it’s after the event, even if it’s too late for Hair Massacure 2009,
keep pushing this video.
I haven’t monetized this video; there are no adverts over there.
I’m not making money, I’m losing money through this video.
Get it out there, support this deserving cause, and...
that’s it. I’ll have an update after the event.
